We specialize in brain-tanned buckskins, robes, & rawhides. Anpo Natural Tannery & Ranch is a family owned business located just on the south side of the Riding Mountain National Park. Along with raising bison; we produce old style bison products such as robes, buckskins, and many other products that the plains people of North America would have created back in the 1800's. Besides creating bison products we also tan hides such as moose, elk, deer, and we do beadwork and quillwork.

*** SOLD! *** Bison robe for sale! Skinned the old way, braintanned, and all done by hand. Very soft. Sewn with bison sinew. The is what you would call a "split robe", this is something that was done often long ago. A couple of reasons why this was done is because after an animal is about a year old the hair on the hump becomes more coarse and also the hump becomes harder to tan soft. So the center spine and hump are cut out and sewn back together. Also sometimes they would skin the hide off the animal from the back, tan the two halves then sew them back together. We're asking $3500 cad. Something to keep you warm this winter 🙂. P.s. don't mind the snowflakes in the photo.

Dear Friends and Customers, thank you all for the love over the years. We genuinely appreciate it.

Recently, we've noticed some negative comments on our page regarding our prices that we'd like to address. These comments often come from individuals who have little to no experience in tanning, let alone moose hides. We realize that the moose hide prices are expensive, however, they are only a fraction of the cost of what they are going for in retail in Canada. The current price of a Grade A extra-large moose hide is going for nearly 8000 Canadian dollars out west.

We have been tanning for over 30 years, and we remember doing this work for very little money just to make ends meet. Like everything in Canada, things are expensive, and a person must keep in mind our Canadian dollar is not worth very much these days.

In recent years, we have seen a huge revival in Native tanners picking up their scrapers, getting those hides perfectly smooth and soft, free of any fluff, trudging through the bush for a day to find the tanners' gold (rotten spruce), sewing the hide into a bag and carefully watching it smoke for up to two days. With numerous steps and work in between all of that. Seeing more of this happening out there absolutely warms our hearts. Because of this more and more of our people are starting to use brain-tanned hide again, and they realize its worth and how special it is.
