Weeks ago a friend gave my daughter and I a piece of mint plant that she rooted. We planted it in the richly nutriented soil and watered it. Nothing super extraordinary, but Lord has used this to speak to me about seasons and principles that are absolutely for me but I think for you too.
As you can see the plant looks fairly strong and sturdy and standing tall. The initial first weeks it didn’t. We watered it and watched it look it was going to die. Leaves were falling off and the stem didn’t look strong yet. But as the first couple weeks moved on it began to get stronger looking. At one point my daughter was sad and said it was going to die. I just thought and said let’s see what happens.
So here it is today strong and while a few leaves fell off there are now new ones growing.
This plant is unique because it came from a very unsuspecting place. A restaurant which served mint with the dish eaten. It was brought home in napkin and purse and placed in water. Then given to me with some roots.
Like us we come from backgrounds less than perfect. We come to the places we are today without all the perfect set of circumstances. God takes us through a number of significant places and environments that He uses to grow us. Sometimes those environments are painful. Sometimes they provoke us greatly. Then He takes us to another season of life, moving us out of the old and into the new we feel, look like to others that we are dying. We aren’t.
He’s just planted us into a new season of life. In rich soil completely able to nourish us. During a transition season, growing season, a season of uncertainty we often feel a bit lost. We lose some leaves, our stems seem a bit wobbly but as long as we’re being watered and remaining in the sun aka “the Son” / Jesus, we will grow even more. This mint plant slip has everything it needs to become a mint plant. We too have everything that pertain to life and godliness inside of us. We have Gods DNA inside of us as we are created in the likeness and image of God. We have the life of Christ in us as we stay intimately connected to the Son to produce as He intended us to produce. In the case of the plant - mint. In our case, we have what has been written about us before the foundation of the earth. According to psalm 139. If we don’t give up, if we stay rooted and planted in Christs love we will produce fruit. Fruit that will remain and that many others can benefit from as well. And more importantly fruit that will bring Glory to God. I am thankful the plant hasn’t died because God has used it to speak to me about the season of life I’m in.
I’ve been translated and planted into a new season of life and I will and am growing to produce fruit. To the Glory of His name. If you’re in a season where there is so much unfamiliarity, newness and uncertainty stay watered up, stay in the Son. There’s growth right where you are.
Be blessed.
