A shout-out to two of our musicians!

Principal Trumpet Jay Michalak and Principal Clarinet Andrea Ciona will be performing in Aurum Ventus, a new chamber ensemble making its debut on Saturday, June 20 at Cornerstone Music Cafe .

Joined by flutist Emily Phernambucq and pianist Augustine Yates, they'll be presenting an evening of rarely heard chamber music featuring works by James Stephenson, Eric Ewazen, and Perkins Coolidge Taylor.

If you're looking for some live music this weekend, this promises to be a great concert — and a chance to support a couple of familiar faces from the RMSO!

Thank you to everyone who braved the rain and cold to attend our concert yesterday!

We hope you found the music as warm, exciting, and inspiring as we did — from the jazz-infused energy of Rhapsody in Blue to the beauty of Brahms and the sparkle of Bernstein.

A special thank you to our guest conductor and pianist, Rolf Bertsch, and to all of the musicians, volunteers, and supporters who helped make the afternoon possible.

Most of all, thank you to our audience. Sharing great music with a full and enthusiastic hall made the day truly memorable.

On May 31, we’re delighted to welcome guest conductor and pianist Rolf Bertsch to the stage.

An accomplished Canadian musician with an international career spanning thousands of performances, Rolf has built a reputation as both a compelling conductor and an exceptional pianist. Over his career, he has performed nearly 4,000 concerts, made over 100 recordings, toured internationally, and collaborated with leading artists across the globe.

He is widely recognized for his long tenure as pianist and conductor-in-residence with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, as well as his work with organizations including Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. He has conducted many of Canada’s major orchestras and continues to perform regularly as a solo pianist.

Now based in Calgary, he serves as Music Director and Conductor of the Calgary Civic Symphony and remains an active performer, educator, and arts leader. His work in music education and arts leadership has made a lasting impact both locally and internationally.

For this concert, Rolf takes centre stage as both conductor and pianist in George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, bringing his signature artistry and experience to one of the most iconic works of the 20th century.

A chance to hear him perform from the piano in this iconic work, live on May 31.
