Not only supplies—but also expert knowledge and customer support. The resident pysanka expert at Baba's Beeswax is Joan Brander, a Ukrainian-Canadian with over 60 years experience writing pysanky. Having learned the

tradition as a child from her grandmother whom she called "Baba", Joan elevated the art-form to a new level in 1991 by starting a company “Baba’s Beeswax”. She didn’t have to look far to find an ideal name for her enterprise: Baba because she was her inspiration and teacher—Beeswax because of its significance to the technique. Joan is an accomplished author, artist and instructor with published works that include a children's activity book, newsletter, bibliography, birthday party planner, instructional guide and countless articles and teaching aids. She shares her expertise and knowledge in “Ask me anything about pysanky” • “Tuesday Tips” • “Take a Look, Read a Book!” • “A pysanka poem worth sharing”. Over the years Joan has developed multi-generational enrichment programs for people from all walks of life and age groups. She’s passionate about pysanky and reflects that in her workshops and ZOOM sessions. When pysanky are written on full eggs, over time the egg whites will dry up as gases form and escape through the porous shell. Unless the pysanka is rotated from time to time, the yolk will attach to one side of the shell and force the egg to become wobbly, i.e. creating a "Mexican jumping bean" effect (without the moth larva)!

At Oseredok's World's Largest Pysanka Exhibit, there are many that have jumped around, making the exhibit come to life in unexpected ways as evidenced in Norbert Iwan's photo at Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre. "No yoke"—this is a real thing.
