Vancouver Oratorio Society

The Vancouver Oratorio Society (VOS) is a non-profit organization founded in January 1991.

For over thirty years, the Society has strived to pursue excellence in performing symphonic choral repertoire. We are a group of Christian vocalists and musicians who have dedicated ourselves to praising and glorifying God through sacred music. Currently, we have about 90 choir members representing many churches throughout the Metro Vancouver area.

Don't miss this special occasion featuring a complete performance of Joseph Haydn's beloved oratorio The Creation (sung in English), with distinguished soloists:
• Melanie Krueger, Soprano
• Martin Renner-Wallace, Tenor
• Aaron Durand, Bass-Baritone
accompanied by the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra.

We are also delighted to welcome guest conductor Rev. Silas Ng, guest choir Schola Cantorum Emmanuel, and organist Michael Dirk in performances of Hubert Parry's I Was Glad and Palestrina's O Beata Trinitas.

With hearts full of gratitude, VOS joyfully celebrates its 35th anniversary with an inspiring performance of Joseph Haydn’s The Creation (presented in English), alongside with Parry’s “I Was Glad” and Palestrina’s “O Beata Trinitas".
This beloved oratorio "The Creation" proclaims the beauty of God’s design and His marvelous works, vividly portraying the unfolding of light, life, and order.
Through majestic choruses, expressive solo voices, and radiant orchestral writing, the music captures both the grandeur and intimacy of creation, inviting listeners into a profound experience of wonder and praise.

Come to join us for an evening with beloved hymns that reflects on the Seven "I AM" Statements of Jesus from the Gospel of John.
Selections from Felix Mendelssohn’s Psalm 115, Psalm 95 and Elijah are the highlights of the 2nd part of the concert.

VOS Chorus will join hands with VOS Chamber Singers and VOS Chamber Orchestra under the baton of our Principal Conductor, Kemuel Wong, and guest conductor Dr. Ben Ewert.
We are so honored to have invited Dr. Ben Ewert as our guest conductor in this concert. Dr. Ben Ewert is the Director of Music at St. John’s Vancouver Anglican Church, and Director of Choral Activities and Assistant Professor of Music at Trinity Western University.

Come to join us to kick off the first week of Advent, with praises and celebrate "Christmas" the joyous season of the year!

VOS Chorus will join hands with two renowned guest soloists, VOS Chamber Singers, VOS Chamber Orchestra in presenting Antonio Vivaldi’s Majestic Oratorio “Gloria 榮耀頌”, under the baton of our Principal Conductor, Kemuel Wong.
Other program including Festival of Lessons & Carols - a Christmas tradition, having alternating scripture readings with Christmas carols sung in English and Mandarin,together with the congregation, and songs by either VOS Chorus or VOS Chamber Singers only.

Our choir will join hands with VOS Chamber Singers, in presenting "Sanctuary - A Cantata of Hope and Peace" by Joseph Martin; and a number of favourite sacred selections sung in English and Chinese, accompanied by piano and chamber orchestra.

The cantata “Sanctuary” is a service in song that conveys the many ways in which the seeker finds shelter and safety in the grace of Christ. It shares moments in the Savior’s life, we discover, by His example, the faithfulness of God’s promises to His people.�We hope with this Cantata of Hope and Peace, people will remember that Jesus is our living sanctuary, it is in Him we find our fortress of faith, and there, wrapped in His everlasting love.

Come to join us for our spring concert featuring “Gardens”, a contemporary oratorio by Canadian composer David Squires. This nine-movement work for soprano, choir and chamber orchestra takes you on a profound spiritual journey that starts from the first garden in the book of Genesis to the ultimate and longed for garden described at the end of the Revelation. Each movement brings together divergent biblical passages illustrating the journey from the life, glory and peace of the created order, through the lament of the exiled wanderers, to the Good Shepherd who is our peace, and His suffering, and to our final promised dwelling place in the Garden of Joy yet to come.

We will also present other sacred choral works sung in English and Chinese.
