Got a diorama idea you’ve been wanting to try?
At Nord Ocean Studio in Richmond, you can work on your own miniature scenes with access to a proper workspace, tools and equipment, without having to buy everything for one project.
From 3D-printed parts and terrain work to painting, detailing and final assembly, you can build at your own pace and get guidance whenever you need it.
Already have a reference, theme or idea in mind? Bring it by and we can help you figure out the best way to turn it into a finished piece.
Custom diorama commissions are also available.

There’s always something new to pick up.
We spend a lot of time building and trying new things ourselves too.
One of our team members recently hand-painted this anime figure, and it was a nice reminder that every project teaches you something. Sometimes it’s a new technique, sometimes it’s just noticing a small detail you’d approach differently next time.
That’s pretty much how we look at guidance in the studio as well.
Not everyone needs a full class, and everyone gets stuck on different things. Maybe it’s colour choices, painting, finishing, weathering, or just figuring out what makes sense for the next step.
Bring in whatever you’re working on and we can take a look together.
It’s still your project. We’re just here when you want a second opinion or a bit of help.

First Model Build? No Problem 👋
We recently had a group of 8 and 9 year olds join us for their very first model building experience, and they jumped right in.
From learning the tools and cleaning up parts to assembly and painting, our instructor guides each student through the process step by step. No previous experience is needed, and there’s no pressure to keep up with anyone else.
We’d rather give everyone the time to actually build, try things, make mistakes, and finish something they’re proud to take home.
Sessions can also be split up if needed, so there’s no need to finish everything in one sitting.
If you’re in Richmond or around Metro Vancouver and looking for a hands-on activity for kids, families, or anyone curious about model making, feel free to stop by and see what we’re working on.

Our display cases aren’t just for our own work. We’ve also started adding builds from local hobbyists around Richmond and Metro Vancouver.

That’s the kind of space we want NORD Ocean Studio to be. Somewhere you can bring a build, compare techniques, share references on the TV, talk paint and finishing, or just stop by and see what other people are working on.

After competing and placing at IPMS, we’ve seen how much of this hobby comes from learning from other builders.

So if you’re local and into scale models, miniatures, GK, painting or 3D printing, feel free to drop in. Bring a project, bring a question, or just come hang out for a bit.

Everything You Need to Build, All in One Place

Building models at home sounds easy, until the tools start piling up.

Airbrushes, paints, sanding tools, respirators, ventilation, air filtration... and then you still need somewhere to store everything between sessions.

At Nord Ocean Studio, we’ve set up a dedicated workspace for builders who just want to sit down and get started.

We provide:

• Fully equipped workstations
• Airbrush and painting equipment
• Sanding, cutting and detailing tools

• Storage for unfinished projects and personal tools
• Free storage cabinet access for monthly members

Our Mini Vehicle Series is all about turning a clean build into something that looks like it’s actually been out in the field.

The focus is on vehicle painting, camouflage, weathering, surface effects, and scenic work, including realistic wear, dirt, dust, and finishing details.

You’ll learn practical techniques that carry over into all kinds of military and vehicle models.

No experience or equipment needed. We provide everything.

Our Chibi Series is all about getting the paintwork right.

With larger, cleaner shapes to work on, the main focus is on colour blocking, smooth gradients, airbrushing, and surface finish. You’ll get hands-on practice building up colour evenly, creating soft transitions, and learning how different paint finishes can completely change the look of a piece.

Cute on the outside, but a great way to build some seriously useful painting skills.

No experience or equipment needed. We provide all the tools and materials.

Our Pokémon Mini Series turns familiar characters into small, detailed pieces you can paint, finish, and take home.

Each one is a fun hands-on project with plenty of room to play with colour, shading, texture, and small finishing details. Once it’s done, it’s yours to keep, whether that means putting it on your desk, adding it to a shelf, or keeping a little Pokémon with you in the car.

A small project with a lot of personality and a really fun way to make something that feels like your own.

If you’ve been curious about miniatures but aren’t sure where to start, this is probably the easiest one to jump into.

Our Wishing Bottle Series is made for beginners, and every design can be finished in less than 3 hours.

You’ll get to try painting, simple landscaping, assembly, and a few basic finishing techniques along the way. Nothing too complicated, just a fun little project you can actually finish in one session.

No experience needed, and you don’t need to bring anything. We provide all the tools and materials.
