The Canadian flag has become an overt celebration of genocide, colonialism, and white supremacy. If we insist on acknowledging Canada Day, let it be a day to grieve, reflect, and stand with those peoples who have nothing to celebrate. Let’s turn our flags upside down until Canada has earned the right to turn it’s flag right-side up again. 🪶

May 5th marks the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls (MMIWG). Please join us on May 5th at our Gathering & Vigil to Honour MMIWG which will take place from 7:30pm-9:00pm at the Sharon Temple National Historic Site & Museum.

ALL are welcome to come out and honour our stolen sisters, those still missing and their families. We hope to see you there to partake in a community smudge, sacred fire with to***co ties, hand drumming, light refreshments and a screening of the film,"The River" which offers an inside perspective of the impact of this ongoing crisis on Indigenous families.

Please wear red if you are able to, by all means wear your ribbon skirts if you have them, and let's come together in solidarity to honour MMIWG.

January 4th marks “Canada's second National Ribbon Skirt Day”.

A statement from Indigenous Services Canada says that January 4th will be known as National Ribbon Skirt Day and it will "provide an opportunity for everyone in Canada to recognize, learn about, and celebrate the importance of Indigenous traditions and expressions of culture." It is also an opportunity for all citizens to continue working towards reconciliation.
