Richmond Hill Winter Carnival

Richmond Hill Winter Carnival Feb weekend of affordable outdoor fun & entertainment organized by volunteers to celebrate community.

The Richmond Hill Winter Carnival is a weekend of affordable fun and entertainment organized by volunteers to celebrate the community of Richmond Hill in a welcoming atmosphere. The Richmond Hill Winter Carnival comes about as a result of community effort. The event is organized and planned by a group of volunteers (we call ourselves the Richmond Hill Winter Carnival Committee). Our mandate is to

organize a community party with events to appeal to residents of all ages – from Tots to Grandparents. We work hard to achieve this in the form of a first class event that is affordable for families. We’re very proud of what we put together – but we recognize that we would be entirely unable to achieve these objectives without the generous support from our community businesses, volunteer organizations, Town Departments, and even individuals. We hope you will scan our lists of contributors and remember their contributions to the Winter Carnival in your day-to-day dealings.

It felt a little like winter at today’s spring Maple Syrup Festival, and Richmond Hill Winter Carnival volunteers were busy making new friends and talking about next year’s carnival in February 2027!

Our rubber chicken game, facilitated by Doug and Sheri-Anne, was as popular as ever, but the long lineup for fresh popcorn, dished up by Marc, was the key attraction at our Richmond Green winter carnival booth.

As we wrap up the 57th annual Richmond Hill Winter Carnival, we salute all our sponsors – as we literally could not present our family winter fun without their support!

Now comes our volunteers’ job of cleaning up barbecues, clearing out the tent and packing up all our supplies for storage for another year.

And if you’re wondering, here are the WINNING BUTTON NUMBERS:

1653 - Two Tickets to a Toronto Blue Jays game

1009 - Two-Night Stay at the Royal Harbour Resort in Thornbury

1332 - Escape Room Passes for Four

1180 - toboggan

Our Winter Yeti will be featured in lots of photos from this weekend, as will our Friendly Fox! A carnival visitor shared a photo of their Newfoundland dog with its fox friend.

On stage this afternoon is the Lou Moore Band. Their bluegrass and country tunes have everyone dancing along to the music.

There's lots happening at Mill Pond under sunny skies this afternoon, and our keen button sellers are making sure all carnival visitors have a keepsake carnival button!

Chase from Paw Patrol and Labubu are also popular for keepsake family photos!

If you paid for pancakes today, one of these lovely volunteers took your payment: current carnival committee treasurer Carol and former, longtime committee chair Michele.

Our enthusiastic Rotary Club of Richmond Hill Ontario servers have now finished for this year, and our carnival mascot Ookpik has been high-fiving new friends in the tent.

Road Watch friends were at carnival and were happy to talk to residents about making our roads safer.

Roadwatch and York Regional Police representatives are manning the barbecues, getting the back bacon and sausages ready for our famous winter carnival pancake breakfast.

Richmond Hill Rotarians are busy in their traditional role of SERVING the community - and today that means serving up pancakes and syrup and hot drinks!

Families are enjoying breakfast in the tent, but there’s room for more! We’re serving up pancake breakfast until 11:30 am, so c’mon over to Mill Pond Park and look for the big white tent!

Today (Sunday), we know most people come for our traditional pancake breakfast, but there’s lots on tap all day for families to enjoy!

One free attraction allows children and adults to try on snowshoes for size! The helpful expert from the Township of King will help you strap on the snowshoes, and you can tramp around the snow at the Mill Pond to try this traditional Canadian winter experience.

Another activity is watching our woodcarver, Frank Vandermey, create animals and scenes out of wood. Drop by the gazebo to admire his creativity, or commission your own work of art, such as this family’s carved fish.

And do check out the creative winners of our Children’s Colouring Contest on display near the stage.

For all the activities and events, check out our Sunday schedule at wintercarnival.net.

We’re finishing off the day with our family spaghetti dinner!

Our volunteers served up steaming pasta with meatballs and some dinner guests even brought their own tablecloth! Several diners were pleased to greet our carnival mascot, Ookpik, and pose for photos.

See you tomorrow for our famous winter carnival pancake breakfast!

The first band to take to the winter carnival stage today was the Ainsworth Band, who gave us their toe-tapping rock and blues, then Glenn Marais and the Mojo Train sent their funky music stylings across the Mill Pond site!

If you’re coming to hear the music on Sunday, you’ll enjoy Meep Moop, then a double bill by carnival veterans the Lou Moore Band, followed by Billik.

Check wintercarnival.net for all the details!

Our Birds of Prey demonstrations by The Eyrie have attracted fans of all ages. Here the handler shows a Harris Hawk, who was born at the Ontario educational facility. On Sunday she showed a young bald eagle to excited families.

If you missed seeing the winged wonders today, Birds of Prey will return tomorrow at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm.

And speaking of wings (!?), the winner of the King Henry's Arms wing-eating contest today is a lucky (and very full) Paul Lam (centre), flanked by announcer Liam Kelly and King Henry’s co-owner Anders Lindfors, also a winter carnival committee member.

Paul will now be able to enjoy a pound of free wings every week for a year!
