Bill Thorn Voiceovers

Bill Thorn Voiceovers Professional voiceovers for radio, television, video, narration, and IVR. I have lived in radio, advertising, and marketing all of my working life.

Fascinated by radio at an early age, I got my first radio job while still in high school at a small town station in Ontario. Rising quickly to Afternoon Host and Music Director, I soon moved to the prairies for more adventures. After a few more years on air, I was drawn to the world of advertising and marketing where I has been ever since. I was soon was sought out because of his ability to relate

to clients and company needs, and help “put things on the hoist”, keep the good, discard the bad, see and take advantage of opportunity, and develop great radio campaigns. I understand that advertising has one purpose, and one purpose only for a business – to help that business make more money. While new buzz words, trends, and diversions have come and gone over the years, this remains the single most important purpose for any advertising campaign or strategy. During the past 36 years, I have helped hundreds of clients develop better advertising and make better connections with their customers. I have presented keynote sessions on how to build great ads and ad campaigns, and has voiced so many radio and TV commercials, corporate narrations, and phone messages, that he has lost count! Currently, I am the Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the Regina Humane Society and I do voice work for clients across North America and Europe. I have voiced commercials, corporate narrations and other recordings for the likes of the U.S. Army, Sask Tel, Broadway Bank (Texas), Goodwill of Central Texas, 87 Agency (Paris, France), PHD, Farm Credit Canada, Locke Bryan Productions, Enroll.us, Deerhurst Resort (Ontario) and many more. In addition to working with clients and media, I have served on many corporate boards, ranging from a child care facility to a flight school, and one of Canada’s top 10 Credit Unions with close to $1 billion in assets under management - so I understand how to look after key stakeholders. I am a private pilot and serve as a search and rescue pilot with the Canadian Civil Air Search and Rescue Association and I am one of the few people anywhere who loves getting stuck at an airport, just to watch the planes for a while!

My New Years post from earlier this year. How's it going so far?

I am not one to make a lot of New Year’s resolutions, but here are a few thoughts for your advertising in the coming year:

At least once in 2017, make a guarantee with some teeth. A real one, not a fluffy one. You’re on time or it’s free. It works or you get a new one, no questions asked. Buy from us and you get repairs for free – for as long as you have it. This will help separate you from your competitors.

Ban the words “best”, “greatest”, “cheapest”, “lowest prices ever”, “Number 1”, and “for all your (blank) needs” from your advertising. Forever.

Resolve that what is in an ad is more important that where it is placed or who hears, sees, or reads it. Ads about great businesses and products have a way of attracting the right people.

Understand that advertising is about selling stuff – not branding, engagement or awards.

Spend enough to get the job done. Be bold and make it happen.

Trust your advisors. While there are a few exceptions, most people I know in marketing and advertising are decent and honest. Let them help you.

Advertise as if no one has ever heard of you. Truth is, many have not.

Assume your competitors are good at what they do. Truth is, they are.

Take some risks with your copy. Push the envelope a little. Don’t have all your ads sound or look like everyone else’s ads

Deliver what you promise. Better yet, over-deliver.

Nothing is worse for a customer than not finding what was promised in your advertising. If you have to, keep it simple and small….but WOW them when they contact you.

Have a great year!
