(TLDR: bike night continues all year 6-8pm)
To the riding community,
On May 8th, 2026, I threw my leg over a motorcycle for the first time. It reminded me of when I was a kid, and I would ride my bike home from school speeding down the hill to see how fast I could go. On a motorcycle that hill never ends.
From that first day on I had the comfort of knowing that if I wanted to ride, my Uncle Tim would be a happy chaperone, and I would never have to worry about finding someone to get some saddle time. Almost exactly two months later, Tim and I decided to check out OBB Bike Night in Sylvan Lake. That's where I met Steve and Lyndi (plus a few extras, you all know who you are). Somehow, after only a few kilometres of riding together and about 20 words exchanged, they convinced me to call in sick two days later and join my first poker run! They rode with a level of coordination and attention to safety that gave me the confidence to take my place in the middle of a pack of more than 20 riders, travelling anywhere between the speed limit and "the speed limit.". In the few short months since May, I have had the pleasure of meeting countless riders, many of which I now consider friends, who all know that feeling of opening the throttle on an endless Alberta road, and letting everything else fade away.
Last week I rolled over my 13,000th kilometer…
Steve, Lyndi, Tim and I sat at a table 9 weeks ago and I asked them to help me build Friday Bike Night on 1 core foundation. Anyone who makes the decision to swing their leg over a motorcycle will have the same experience I had in my first few months.
One day a week they can ride knowing that will be a happy chaperone like Tim ready to go.
One day a week they can ride with the confidence that Steve and Lyndi provide through their coordination and safe practices from the front.
One day a week they can come to bike night and spend time with a group of people who love this hobby, and this community as much as they do.
With the change in season many of us are looking at the weather apps trying to decide if there’s “one more good day” or if their last kilometer of the season has already been traveled. I want to take this time to say that just because the bikes may get put away the community doesn’t have too as well.
We will continue to have bike night throughout the fall and winter, and though our mode of travel may change I can promise that once a week there will be a seat at the table for you!
