Feeling incredibly grateful to have had a second opportunity to learn Black Ash basket making from Stephen Jerome .stephen . It’s such an honour to learn from someone who carries so much knowledge and skill in this beautiful art form.

Each time I work with black ash I gain a deeper appreciation for the patience, care, and teachings that go into harvesting, preparing, and weaving every splint.

Miigwech as well to Jeremy and the Rama Culture Department for organizing these opportunities and creating space for these teachings to be shared and continued in our community.

So thankful to keep learning and growing in this work.

Ashley .designs and I had the opportunity to take part in a 3-day Black Ash Basket Making Workshop with Stephen Jerome, a talented Mi’kmaw artist and traditional knowledge keeper who shared his teachings on harvesting, preparing, and weaving black ash splint.

We had an absolute blast learning this beautiful art form and gaining a deeper appreciation for the time, patience, and skill that goes into every basket.

Miigwech to Steven for sharing his knowledge, and to Jeremy from the Rama Culture Department for organizing such an amazing workshop and creating space for these teachings to be shared.
