A new adventure!

Well...This traditionally would have been WAKEFEST weekend. Alasdair, Martin Comeau and I would have been plotting all summer... and spending most of June, July and August pulling it all together. Today would have been the wrap up at the Kaffe 1870 with the musical muse w/ Bruce Cawdron Guy Major Greg Paul Stone and all ... The Nudes of Wakefield Calendar with Franziska Heinze would have been launched and I would be lying in bed now wondering when I would find time in the week to tear-down the Silkscreen Tent - or who I could delegate that to! Wakefest started in 2007w/ Roberta Bouchard & Jamie Munro ... same year my son Calum was born. Year one we had Oni Joseph ... at the old Cafe Molo... mandalas in front of and vernissages inside of the old Sandi's Pizza building (now Le Hibou/ La Foret building), rickshaws and buskers and workshops. Over the 9 years we have had Wakefest Bigs and Wakefest smalls. Experimented. Took risks. Created and birthed new ideas: La Peche Mode and more. Laid low - depending on the energy of our contributors and of the town. Merged artists and art forms. Broadcasted a pirate radio. Partnered with Michael John Dubue and friends with a silent films and a live orchestra on the covered bridge (still my fave). Rachelle Elie in the old United Church. Lynn Miles. Kim Collier. And David O'Meara brought Plan 99 to the local. I'm going to try to list many below that have been key to the last 9 years ... It's year 10 and we will be having one last Wakefest event this October (stay tuned!) we want to have a Wakefest WAKE ... celebrate the fest that was for 9 years... Something will re-emerge this Fall ... For now, Thanks to all who have made each year worth producing and giving up the summer to pull together... Thanks to helpers, artists and sponsors.

Black Harv sailed his sloop on the high seas in search of gold & adventure. Instead he found himself shipwrecked in a storm, but he lived to sail again.

Wakefest is an all-arts festival celebrating our local artists, performers and creators, allowing them to come together and fuse their talents with other artists from other parts of Canada and beyond. Wakefest aims to inspire everyone in our community to engage creatively in a supportive atmosphere....
