Hey Sketchy friends… i will be painting Saturday July 18 in Parksville as part of the AMAZING ART RACE. Hosted by the MAC Mcmillan Arts Center. Artists will meet at 930 at Memorial Square. We will randomly choose a painting spot. Artist will then head to their spot, get ourselves ready to start painting at 10 AM. We have three hours to do our Plein- air painting. We will be stationed around the downtown street corners and storefronts of Parksville. You can pick up a map of where we will be at the MAC Mcmillan Arts Centre. Follow the route, meet the Artists, see how the painting is progressing, admire some vintage sports cars and a few family, friendly activities at each spot .We have to have our masterpieces back to the MAC Mcmillan Art Centre community Garden where we will have our lunch the prizes and judging will be happening. Paintings created during this event will also be available for purchase.

Well, we certainly got sketchy yesterday at our urban sketching class. Learning how to breakdown complicated subjects into shapes and sketch them can really accelerate your ability to draw things.

How to ‘sketch’ in real time. The method I use involves looking at a building and deconstructing it into ‘shapes’. Then adding shapes and details to the drawing by ‘comparing’ other items in the scene to achieve correct placement. We will work outside to learn to use this technique.
