Liz Barichievy: A little about who I am. I was born in South Africa and grew up on acreage, so spent my childhood playing in the dirt and exploring the forest on our property. It was a child’s dream and probably the beginnings of my passion for nature. My husband and I and our children aged 3 and 5 at the time, came to Vancouver, Canada in 1990 and have been so blessed to call this home since then
. So began my added passion for the ocean with many years boating our local islands in BC. I have qualified and worked as an interior designer my entire career. Having recently moved to Vancouver Island, I am still practicing here and on the Lower Mainland. Having nurtured clients through the process of new builds or renovations all this time I felt the need to explore the process of creating art which could compliment their interior space and which could give them a touch which truly represents who they are in their homes and businesses. My passion has always been nature and an obsession with light, texture in general, design principles encompassing finding balance in a space, creating contrast for interest whether with texture or scale, colours and tones, volume and lightness, fullness and spaciousness, busy and calm. These principles all create the harmony, contrast and balance of the whole space. These apply to the scheme as a whole and even just the pieces that make up the whole. This led me to experiment with weaving large wall hangings. I realized I could create large pieces which could complete an interior scheme. My mission is to customize larger wall hangings to compliment interior spaces, depending on the final touches that a space needs. I want to give people an art form that they will know not only complimented their interior but could be an expression of who they are. A home or a commercial interior needs to represent the people or the image of businesses that function there. My mandate as an interior designer has always been to create spaces that are not only efficient but at the same time increase one’s enjoyment of the space. The interiors I have created for clients have always been about them and who they are, as they are the people living in that space long after my work is done. I have loved the process of getting to know each one of them and nurturing them through the process of creating a space they love. How lovely that will be creating wall hangings for people to know it was specifically made to compliment them and their interiors.
