Cascade Peaks ChamberFest concludes on Sunday June 21st at 2 pm in a concert entitled Light and Celebration - with music of brilliance, vitality, and exuberance, featuring all of our instrumental guest artists; the Borealis String Quartet, the Gryphon Trio, Mark Fewer, violin, and Sharon Wei, viola. Haydn’s Piano Trio in A Major, Hob. XV:18 sparkles with the wit and clarity that helped define the Classical style, its graceful melodies and playful exchanges between violin, cello, and piano capturing the composer’s unmistakable charm. Bohuslav Martinů’s Sonata for Violin and Piano brings a contrasting twentieth-century voice, blending rhythmic drive, lyrical passages, and flashes of folk-inspired energy. The festival culminates with Tchaikovsky’s electrifying Souvenir de Florence, a lush and virtuosic work for string sextet. Rich in soaring melodies, fiery Russian character, and exuberant ensemble writing, it provides a thrilling and celebratory finale to Light and Celebration. Festival Access Passes and single concert tickets are now available on our website at https://cascadepeakschamberfest.ca/events/light-and-celebration

The second evening of Cascade Peaks ChamberFest opens on Saturday, June 20th with a concert entitled 'Song and Flight', and a world premiere by Imant Raminsh of 'Where Wildness Lives', lyrics by poet Becky Strube, Raminsh’s wife and collaborator. The piece will be performed by the Chamber Vocal Ensemble accompanied by the Borealis String Quartet, under the direction of Dr. Mark Vuorinen in the lobby of the Rock Theatre at 7 pm prior to the concert in the main theatre. Several other works will be performed by the Chamber Vocal Ensemble as well. All ticket holders to the 7:30 pm concert are welcome to attend this special premiere.

The 7:30 pm concert celebrates lyricism, colour, and musical dialogue across centuries. Mozart’s Duo for Violin and Viola in B-flat Major, K. 424 is a masterpiece of elegant conversation between two instruments, full of wit, warmth, and effortless melodic charm. The program then turns to contemporary Canadian composer Kelly-Marie Murphy, whose Give Me Phoenix Wings to Fly evokes transformation and renewal through vibrant rhythms and soaring musical gestures.

After intermission, Dvořák’s beloved Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major brings together piano and strings in one of the most joyful works of the chamber repertoire. Overflowing with folk-inspired melodies, lyrical beauty, and rhythmic vitality, the quintet radiates warmth and optimism. Tickets for 'Song and Flight' can be purchased at https://cascadepeakschamberfest.ca/events/song-and-flight/

The festival opens on Friday, June 19th with music of dramatic intensity and emotional depth. Beethoven’s String Trio in G Major, Op. 9 No. 1 reveals the young composer already expanding the expressive possibilities of chamber music, blending Classical elegance with bold energy and rich interplay among the instruments. Written nearly 170 years later, Shostakovich’s Ninth String Quartet reflects a deeply personal voice forged under political pressure, its five connected movements moving between quiet introspection and bursts of restless urgency. The program culminates with Dvořák’s sweeping Piano Trio No. 3 in F minor, one of the composer’s most powerful chamber works. Passionate melodies, dramatic contrasts, and moments of radiant lyricism create a work of profound emotional breadth, bringing the evening to a stirring conclusion. Join us on June 21st at 7:30 pm to experience 'Fire and Shadow' - Festival Access Passes and single concert tickets available now at https://cascadepeakschamberfest.ca/events/fire-and-shadow/

Our quartet-in-residence for Cascade Peaks is the fabulous Borealis String Quartet. 🎵This is the third year that the Borealis has taken the lead in mentoring participants at Cascade Peaks, and providing the guest artist anchor for the Festival Concert Series. Fun fact about the Borealis: The Borealis was the only classical group to be selected for the Great Canadian Dream Competition which was televised across the nation and as a result, were the only classical musicians to perform for the Prime Minister of Canada at the Parliament Hill in Ottawa for an audience of over 75,000. Since then, they have performed on every music series in Canada. 🎬🎻🎬 We're looking forward to welcoming them back to the lakeside in June!
