Celebrating Years of Service to the Arts

The Prince Albert Council for the Arts extends our heartfelt gratitude to retiring board members Gail Syverson, Lorraine Brokop, Annette Nieman and Barb McKeand for their many years of dedicated service and commitment to the arts in our community.

Behind every program, exhibition, event, and opportunity are volunteers who generously give their time, knowledge, and energy. Over the years, these dedicated board members have contributed hundreds of volunteer hours to help make arts education, experiences, and resources accessible through the Margo Fournier Arts Centre and throughout Prince Albert.

Their leadership has helped support programs such as Open Art Studio, the Evergreen Artisan Market, exhibitions at the John V. Hicks Gallery, Artist in Residence opportunities, and the many guilds and clubs that make the Arts Centre such a vibrant creative space.

Their contributions reach far beyond meetings and minutes. They have helped create opportunities for artists, encouraged creativity in young people, supported local arts organizations, and strengthened the role of the arts in our community.

Lorraine, Barb, Annette, and Gail, thank you.

Thank you for the countless hours, the conversations, the decisions, the challenges you helped navigate, and most importantly, for believing in the value of the arts in Prince Albert.

Your leadership, knowledge, and commitment have strengthened the Prince Albert Council for the Arts and created a lasting legacy for generations of artists, makers, and community members to come.

The Prince Albert Council for the Arts is saddened to learn of the passing of Gerry Koshman, a valued member of Prince Albert’s arts and cultural community.

Gerry previously served on the Board of Directors of the Prince Albert Council for the Arts, generously contributing his time, knowledge, and commitment to supporting the arts in our community. He was also an active member of the Mid-Pro Rock and Gem Club, sharing his interests and talents as part of Prince Albert’s creative community.

Organizations like ours are built on the dedication of people who choose to give their time and energy to something they believe in. Gerry was one of those people. His contributions helped strengthen the arts community we enjoy today, and that is a lasting legacy.

We extend our sincere condolences to Gerry’s family, friends, fellow club members, and all those whose lives he touched.

With gratitude, we remember Gerry and the contribution he made to the arts in Prince Albert.

The Prince Albert Council for the Arts was honoured to attend the dedication of Passage Home at Scarrow Plaza on Saturday, August 22.

Created by Dr. Mary Longman (Askipiyesiwiskwew), a Saulteaux artist from Gordon’s First Nation, Passage Home is a powerful bronze memorial sculpture and healing park dedicated to Indigenous children who died away from home, those still finding their way back, and the survivors and families who continue to carry these stories.

Inspired by the traditional akotâpân (travois), the sculpture symbolizes a safe passage home to family, traditional territories, and a place of rest.

As an organization that believes in the power of the arts to tell stories, create understanding, preserve memory, and strengthen community, we are grateful to see this important work become part of Prince Albert’s public landscape.

Thank you to Dr. Mary Longman for sharing her extraordinary vision, talent, and compassion with our community, and to everyone who helped bring Passage Home to life.

May this beautiful and meaningful space provide a place for reflection, remembrance, learning, and healing for generations to come.

📣 This May, the John V. Hicks Gallery is turning into the studio of Gabriela Garcia-Luna! 📣

From May 1st to 23rd, the John V. Hicks Gallery at the Margo Fournier Arts Centre will be transformed into Gabriela's site for research, exploration, and art-making.

🌷 Gabriela García-Luna is a photo-based multimedia artist born in Mexico City and based in Treaty Six Territory (Saskatoon). She uses a combination of mediums to blur the limits between photography, digital work, printmaking, drawing, and installation.

We invite you to attend the following activities with Gabriela at the John V. Hicks Gallery:

✨ Artist Talk - Thursday April 30th at 7:00 PM ✨
Get to know Gabriela! In this artist talk and presentation, Gabriela will dive into the evolution of her practice in Mexico, India, and Saskatchewan.

This residency and exhibition is curated by Jesse Campbell, with support from the Prince Albert Council for the Arts, the Northern Lights Community Development Corporation, the Margo Fournier Arts Centre, and the City of Prince Albert.
