🤖 WEDNESDAY! May 27, 7 pm, The Patricia Theatre

“Ghost in the Machine ‘is a gripping and urgently relevant investigative documentary that exposes the buried history of artificial intelligence, not as a neutral system of algorithms, but as a technology shaped by racism, misogyny, eugenics, and entrenched power structures long before it entered everyday life,’ notes a release. ‘Challenging the myth of AI as inevitable or objective, the film traces how narratives of progress and efficiency have obscured deeper political and cultural agendas, revealing the ideological foundations beneath systems now reshaping modern society.’”

In suburban Buenos Aires, thirty unemployed auto-parts workers walk into their idle factory, roll out sleeping mats and refuse to leave. All they want is to re-start the silent machines. But this simple act - the take - has the power to turn the globalization debate on its head. Armed only with slingshots and an abiding faith in shop-floor democracy, the workers face off against the bosses, bankers and a whole system that sees their beloved factories as nothing more than scrap metal for sale.

With The Take, director Avi Lewis and writer Naomi Klein champion a radical economic manifesto for the 21st century.

Every March, we take a break from our regular programming to sponsor one of the films showing at our local International Film Festival. This year, we are excited to support the screening of Mr Nobody Against Putin, an amazing documentary about the indoctrination of Russian school children since the beginning of Russia's war on Ukraine.

Tickets can only be purchased through the film festival, so unfortunately we can't offer a pay-what-you-can option for this screening. For information about the film fest and to purchase tickets, check out https://www.qathetfilm.ca/film-festival-2026/

We do have free screeners to just a few of the festival films for folks interested in reviewing them for our zine. If you want to sign up to review 100 Liters of Gold, The Blue Trail, or Köln 75, we'll send you the screening link to watch at home. These will be snapped up quickly, so act fast! Email us at [email protected] to sign up.

What does reviewing a film entail?
☆ Reviews can be any format that fits into the tiny space we have available: 1/8th of an 11x17 sheet of paper.
☆ Reviews can be any kind of response to or analysis of the film that you feel inspired to make: drawings, collages, poems, stream-of-consciousness, transcribed conversations, traditional movie reviews with star ratings...
☆ You can create the full zine page yourself, and we will print it exactly as you made it OR you can just type up what you want to say and send it in, and we will create the page layout for you. The zine will be printed in black and white.
☆ Reviews are due March 4. Sign up in advance.

Aaaaand we have big plans for our April screening... so stay tuned!
