This piece is an offering to my community, to the land that holds us, and to togetherness that will see us through all of the weird times we are living in.

I’m sharing more from my exhibition this past spring as life is settling down for me. Here we are slow and steady, nearly halfway through autumn. I hope you are all finding comfort and warmth with everything going on on a macro and micro scale. We have to take care of ourselves and each other more than ever.

This creature was drawn with two hands in my backyard while I was pregnant last summer. The whisper that became the title is an invitation to follow your awareness, all the way up through the crown of your head, and letting that awareness bring light through your body even on the dullest of days.

May these colors inspire connection to the land wherever you are, and to follow the storyline of the plants and earth around you, to get to know your place.

Thoughts from my time with .wilderness.residency on Mnisiing Island:

My work is about desire
About going backwards
And finding ways of being my ancestors abandoned for what turned out to be the oppressive systems we are currently dismantling
I am in solidarity with the land
I am pulling up her energy
I am charging my battery with light
I am flexing my rage from underneath my ribs,
Her vessel.

These colours hold storylines:
Marigolds and amaranth from the art centre garden,
Plants that have traveled across the world for thousands of years,
Marigold medicine colour joy giver,
Amaranth food flower ritual, a new friend.
Copper from my home, qathet, a toxic turquoise for our water and sky.
They form these new creatures, messengers with invitations.

Where are these creatures taking me?
They’re dreams, past futures,
Holding my hand when it’s all too much
Our deconstructed gambling systems
Children who are starving are my children
Black hole brains continuing masochistic unbalanced ways of breathing, walking, always fighting,
Never loving, greed isn’t love it’s always wanting more

But there’s enough
There’s so much for all of us.

Each creature brings an encouragement
Or a release
A reminder
There are seasons
We won’t remain this way
The world doesn’t need relaxed women
Embrace your fierceness
Your beast
Your howling moon voice.

Every morning get up and trust it can be good
Or at least walk until it starts to feel alive.
