MEMBER’S WALL SHOWCASE: Micheal Feehan

Micheal Feehan is an artist based in Port Union NL. Micheal's work primarily focuses on oil paintings of landscapes. Some of his works have been displayed at 4 of UHA's community exhibitions.

Everyone say hello to Shaunae Squires!

Shaune is joining us this year as our Youth Programs Coordinator and we couldn’t be more excited!

Here's a little about Shaunae:

Born in Gander and raised in St. John’s, she is a settler who recently moved back home to Newfoundland (Ktaqmkuk) after living in Ontario for four years. Shaunae holds a BA in History from MUN and has spent the last five years creating impactful youth programming.

Be sure to say hi when/if you see her at the gallery this year!

Meet David Bobier, one of our Artists in Residence for June!

David Bobier is a hard of hearing and disabled media artist whose creative practice is exploring multi-modal means of art making. His other focus is in developing accessible vibrotactile technology as an artistic and experiential medium that lead to the establishment in 2014 of VibraFusionLab, a multi-sensory creative research centre now situated in Hamilton that has an international reputation as a leader in accessibility for the Deaf and Disability Arts movement.

His career includes 27 solo and two-person exhibitions and over 30 group exhibitions in Canada and internationally. He has also been awarded two public art commissions and has been shortlisted for three others.

Bobier has served in advisory roles in developing Deaf and Disability Arts Equity programs for both Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council, was an invited participant in the Canada Council for the Arts – The Arts in a Digital World Summit and a presenter at the Global Disability Summit in London, UK. He has also been an invited several time for both the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council and was recently nominated by the Canada Council for the Arts for a Governor General’s Innovation Award.

On June 20th at 1:30pm, David will be hosting a talk about VibraFusionLab! VibraFusionLab is an internationally renowned disabled artists-led creative research and development project and facility, supports accessibility in art practices and art experiences for Deaf and disabled artists and audiences. Summer is almost here at UHA! Check out what we have planned for June! ⬇

June 4 - Maker's Night with David Bobier, 7-9pm
Join us and David for a chill evening of WIP!

June 11 - Maker's Night with David Bobier, 7-9pm
Another chill evening to hang out and make stuff!

June 16 - UHA Annual General Meeting (Online Only), 7pm
Our AGM is a review of the past year, updates on our projects, and a look ahead at what’s to come. This is your chance to have a say in the future of Union House Arts. This event is free to participate and attend but only valid members will be able to vote.

June 18 - Maker's Night with David Bobier & Lu Sakhno, 7-9pm
Come and hang out with us, David and Lu!

June 20 - VibraFusionLab: Exploring the Multi-sensory Technology in the Arts, 1:30-3:30pm
Join visiting artist David Bobier to learn about VibraFusionLab! This is a hybrid event, so join us in person or online!

June 25 - Maker's Night with David Bobier & Lu Sakhno, 7-9pm
David and Lu's last Maker's night before they head home! Come and hang out, bring a work in progress, or just yourself!

Maker's Night is taking place TONIGHT! (May 28th, 7-9pm)

Join us for a relaxing evening in our gallery space from 7-9pm as we come together to make, chat, and hang out! Maker's Nights are for all ages, you can bring a project that you're working on- or just yourself! We will have some supplies to experiment with if you're interested 😉
