We have been monitoring for aquatic invasive species across Trinity Bay from Port Union to Old Perlican this summer and fall and want to hear from you about any new species you are seeing in the bay! Monitoring and local marine stewardship for aquatic invasive species in Trinity Bay is so crucial as it is one of the last bays on the island of Newfoundland where none of the priority aquatic invasives species have confirmed or established populations to date, despite many species being confirmed in adjacent bays.
We will also be showing off some of our monitoring equipment including an environmental DNA sampler, European Green Crab traps, and settlement plates! Monitoring for invasive species takes a village and we hope to have you there to talk about next steps and community priorities for managing the threat of aquatic invasive species to our fishery and marine ecosystems.
