First time I’ve actually painted one of my own pets. This is chewy. Very happy with his eyes. He is just begging to play ball for those treats. He’s a lot darker and younger in the painting than the gray he wears now at almost 14 years old.

A big thank you to these photographers (Susan Roghair, Lorena Ruffini, Tami Nielsen and Colin Moses)as I used each of their ostriches for references to make this final acrylic on canvas painting. This was inspired by the cruel slaughter in BC. Whether you agree with the cull or not, I think most everyone agrees it was poorly executed and these poor creatures were terrified and slaughtered inhumanely.
