A Place to Remember

Base31 will be offering a variety of programming in the Exhibition Hall to remember, reflect and honour those who have served. Throughout the weeks leading up to Remembrance Day, visitors are invited to take part in a collective art project, creating a permanent, visual cascade of poppies. On Saturday’s & Sunday’s at 10am and 1pm, Exhibition Hall staff will offer crochet workshops at $10 per participant. Come for the craft, stay for the conversation, and leave with a poppy you made yourself.

Create a luminary to honour someone who served.
For a minimum contribution of $5, you can dedicate a luminary with a name or message. The luminaries will become part of a growing memorial within the Exhibition Hall, surrounding the Lancaster and illuminating the stories and people represented by them.

Then, on the evening of November 10th, the luminary’s will be lighted for an Evening to Remember. Visitors are invited to walk through the space, read the names represented by the luminaries and spend a few moments remembering those who served.

On November 10th & 11, the Exhibition Hall will be free to all guests, offering another opportunity to visit, reflect and remember.

An afternoon of art, discovery and connection.

Last Saturday, we joined our friends at Oeno Gallery for Art in Place, a celebration of contemporary Canadian sculptures across Base31’s historic grounds.

From the guided Art Walk to an artist talk with Viktor Mitic and a reception at The Commissary, it was a chance to slow down, look closer and connect with the stories behind the art.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to Oeno Gallery for helping bring this special afternoon to life!

Missed the celebration? The Art Walk is free to explore daily. Come discover something inspiring on your next visit.
