Join this Saturday August 29th for the opening of Woodland Spirits, new works by Jan Mills.

The new collection dives deeper into Mills’ ongoing fascination with the textures, forms and stories embedded in the landscape. Through an inventive combination of found materials and carefully crafted elements, Woodland Spirits invites us to look more closely at the familiar—revealing unexpected connections with the natural world.

Bill Penner’s thought-provoking exhibition on society, 'Ceremony of Innocence', comes to an end this Sunday.

One visitor was particularly moved by 5 Girls, leaving this powerful reflection in our guest book:

“Captivating, haunting, brutal……the top right bears a stoic and unsettling loneliness, gazing on those filled with joy……in search of the same joy…burning to find a companion. The environment feels almost chemical in the isolated, corrosive box.”

If you haven’t yet experienced this compelling exhibition, this is your last chance. Come see 5 Girls and the other powerful works in Ceremony of Innocence before the exhibition closes this Sunday.

WOODLAND SPIRITS / JAN MILLS
Opening August 27 in the FORMAT Gallery Space.

Exhibition continues through to September 20
Opening Reception August 29 1-4 pm Artist in Attendance

Join us for the opening of Woodland Spirits, an exhibition of mixed-media works by Jan Mills exploring our spiritual and enduring connection with nature.

Through the Woodland Spirits, Lunar Reflection, Beaverstick, and Beaver Hut series, Mills brings together dreams, memory, the moon, and the traces of wildlife to create works that speak to transformation, reciprocity, shelter, and home.

The exhibition invites us to slow down, reconnect with the natural world, and reflect on the spirit that exists within nature—and within ourselves.

An exhibition celebrating nature, memory, transformation, and our enduring connection to the wild.

Also on display during the Prince Edward County Studio Tour September 18- 20th.

SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT:

Melt Gallery is pleased to announce the solo show by artist, owner and curator of Melt Gallery, NIGHT MOVES.

September 3rd-27th .
Opening Reception : Saturday September 5th 1-4 pm

When darkness falls, the landscape undergoes a quiet transformation. Familiar places become mysterious, shadows lengthen, colours soften, and the ordinary gives way to imagination. Night Moves explores this shifting world that emerges after sunset—a world where the boundaries between reality and memory, observation and wonder, become less defined. - Susan Walis

Corner curating... what's that, you ask?

It's that magical spot where two walls meet, just waiting for an eye-catching combination of artwork.

One of my favourite parts of hanging in the gallery is creating these little corner moments—pairing paintings that complement one another through colour, texture, scale, or subject matter. Sometimes the perfect corner tells a story all on its own.

Here are four curated corners from my gallery called Melt located in the historic Base 31.

Which one is your favourite? I'd love to know which pairing speaks to you most!

Corner 1: Works by Dale Tomlinson and Allen Hirsh
Corner 2: Works by Sheryl Fisher, Pamela Tate and Jan Mills
Corner 3: Works by Susan Wallis (that's me!) and Liane Kelly
Corner 4: Works by Garrett Gilbart and Jan Mills.

Meet Corin Ford Forrester, another of our Summer Guest Artists at Melt Gallery!

Corin is a fine art photographer whose layered, dreamlike landscapes are inspired by the beauty of the natural world. Originally trained in traditional black-and-white photography at the Haliburton School of the Arts, she now blends multiple digital images to create unique works that she prints herself using archival papers and inks.

As Corin shares, "Photographing nature and landscapes can be very meditative. It calms my busy mind and expands my awareness of the exquisite world around me."
We're thrilled to have Corin's beautiful photographic works on display this summer.

Stop by Melt Gallery and experience them in person or see her work online at https://www.meltstudiogallery.com/shop/corin-ford-forrester
