Perfect for students who love to draw, this beginner-to-intermediate Scratchboard course offers a unique opportunity to explore a striking and rewarding artistic medium. Students will learn how to create detailed, high-contrast artwork by scratching into specially prepared surfaces, revealing images through the creative use of line, texture, and contrast.

Throughout the course, students will develop both technical skills and artistic confidence while exploring the many ways line can be used to create depth, movement, texture, and expression. Emphasis will be placed not only on mastering Scratchboard techniques, but also on creating meaningful and engaging compositions.

Whether you're new to Scratchboard or looking to expand your drawing skills, this course provides a fun and supportive environment to experiment, create, and bring your ideas to life.

Join us at the Art School of Peterborough for an exciting, hands-on photography class designed especially for teens! Whether you’re picking up a camera for the first time or already love taking photos, this course will help you build your skills, boost your confidence, and discover your own creative style.

Bring your camera—and your imagination! You’ll learn how to use your camera settings, create great compositions, work with different kinds of light, and capture photos you’ll be proud to share. With fun demonstrations and practical activities, you’ll explore how to turn everyday moments into creative images.

But taking the photo is only the beginning! You’ll also get an introduction to editing your images using digital software and learn simple techniques to make your photos stand out. By the end of the class, you’ll have new photography skills, a better understanding of your camera, and plenty of ideas for your next creative project.

Fall Term: Abstract Painting & Mixed Media

This class invites students to challenge their expectations and expand the way they see and create art.

Focusing on abstract art, students will explore a form of expression that moves beyond realistic representation. Instead of depicting the world as it appears, abstraction communicates ideas and emotions through line, shape, colour, form, and gestural mark-making.

Through a combination of traditional and experimental techniques, artists will develop a personal approach to creating work that is expressive, dynamic, and open-ended. Students will be encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, and rethink what art can be.

Abstraction is not limited to a single style or movement, it can exist within all forms of art. At its core, it offers freedom from strict representation, opening the door to new ways of seeing, thinking, and making.

This Teen Art Sampler is designed to explore different mediums and learn from different instructors. What a great way to find out all the creative opportunities our Art School can offer. Students will experience a new medium each week and complete a finished product in each medium. Projects will include, Drawing, Scratchboard, Hand-built Pottery, Acrylic Painting and Printmaking. This is a wonderful class to potentially try out something new! All supplies are included, though a sketchbook is recommended.

We’re looking for local artists to submit pet-themed artwork to be showcased during October’s First Friday! 🐶🐱🐰🐴

Whether it’s a portrait of your own beloved pet, a playful interpretation, or an animal-inspired masterpiece, we want to see it! ❤️

This Open Studio is ideal for intermediate painters who are looking for extra guidance and support while creating their own original artwork. Students will work independently on their chosen projects while receiving helpful tips, feedback, and instruction along the way.

Bring your own painting materials and supplies that you would like to work with each day. A general supply list is provided below as a helpful guide, but it is not required.

Please note: There will be no class on October 5th or October 12th. Classes will continue through December 8th.
