Fall Term: Landscape Painting

Discover the striking beauty of painting landscapes on a black canvas in this engaging course led by Jane. Whether you prefer acrylics or oils, you'll learn techniques that make colours glow, create depth, and bring your landscapes to life against a dark background.

The course begins with step-by-step demonstrations designed to build confidence and introduce key concepts. As the sessions progress, students will work on their own landscape paintings while receiving personalized guidance and support from Jane every step of the way.

Ideal for beginner and intermediate painters who have some basic painting experience, this course is designed to help you grow your confidence and creativity. You don't need to be an expert - just bring your supplies, your enthusiasm for painting, and a willingness to learn!

Fall Term: Basketry

Discover the art of basketry through the plants growing all around us! In this hands-on course, students will learn how to identify, harvest, and prepare a variety of locally available basketry materials found in backyards, urban spaces, and natural areas throughout Peterborough and the surrounding region with a special focus on making use of invasive species.

Explore a range of traditional basketry techniques, including cordage, braiding, weaving, twining, coiling, plaiting, and twill, through demonstrations and guided projects. Whether you're completely new to basketry or looking to expand your existing skills, this course offers a welcoming environment to deepen your connection to natural materials and the craft of weaving.

Students are encouraged to bring along any foraged materials they would like to experiment with. Throughout the course, you'll create 4–5 unique baskets using a variety of techniques and materials, while gaining the knowledge and confidence to continue weaving with plants you can find and gather yourself.

Get your hands dirty and bring your ideas to life in clay! This creative and fun-filled course encourages students to explore their imagination while learning a variety of pottery techniques. Experience the excitement of throwing on the pottery wheel, build unique creations by hand, and experiment with sculptural forms as you develop your own artistic style.

Whether you're making functional pottery, whimsical sculptures, or something entirely your own, this class is all about creativity, exploration, and self-expression.

All materials are included, including clay, glazing, and firing.

Explore the imaginary worlds of fantasy stories and fairytales to inspire our artworks. Fantasy and Fairytales always have a moral to the story, that teaches us about love, humility, bravery, adventure, friendship, and so much more. Fantasy & fairytale stories and artworks have been shared for generations, and still inspire us and the stories and artworks we create today.

This Fantasy & Fairytale Art class will teach Youth artists how to create fantastical creatures, magical lands, and how to create a story using Fantasy & fairytale ideas in their art.
