CASTING ROLES
5 acting cast members of any gender. Ages 20’s to 60’s.

AUDITION FORMAT
You will be auditioning in a group of 4. Each time slot is 20 minutes in length. Please arrive 10 minutes early to fill in the audition forms. Be prepared to collaborate with other actors to read some dialogue and play short improvisational games.
Please also prepare a short solo piece of your choice, which will be followed by a group signing piece provided at the audition.

This historical drama follows three Canadian nurses serving near the front lines during World War I. "Bluebirds" explores their friendships, fears, and moral conflicts as they confront the toll of war while trying to preserve hope and compassion. Lyrical and deeply human, this play pays tribute to courage, compassion, and the strength of those so often overlooked in history.

ROLES

🎭MAGGIE
Female. age 20-35
The oldest of three nurses. She instructs the others on duties and responsibilities. She is the most experienced and has a “crusty edge”. She can make quick decisions in emergencies but is actually emotionally rather fragile.

🎭CHRISTY
Female, age 2-35
She is sweet-tempered and sometimes misses her husband whom she secretly married before shipping out. She corresponds frequently with him but is deeply conflicted now that she has had a taste of freedom on her own.

🎭BAB
Female, age 20-35
She is as tough as nails! Underneath the bluster, she longs for her beloved grandfather, is in love with a married soldier and might have to have a child on her own.

AUDITION FORMAT
Auditions will be held in groups, so please expect to stay for the entire time. You do not have to prepare anything but will be required to sing as part of the audition.

If you would like to come with something prepared, we can hear that first. Please bring your text, and if you are singing, please bring the music. We will have a pianist available. Songs are from the 1917-1918 era. We are looking for a cast that can sing in harmony.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to fill in you audition forms.

This production contains strong language, sexual content, and themes of power, dominance, and submission. An intimacy coach and intimacy agreements will be a part of the rehearsal and performance process. Peterborough Theatre Guild is an inclusive and accepting organization. All are welcome to audition for the following roles:

• Vanda, Female, age 24-45
Vanda is an actress looking for work and desperate, at least we think she is....it seems she may be someone else and has fooled everyone, including the playwright.

• Thomas, Male, age 30-55
Thomas is a playwright who is frustrated with the women he has auditioned for his upcoming play. He has a fiancée who he confides in that there may not be the perfect woman!

We’re excited to share our 2026–2027 season - a lineup of stories that move between comedy, drama, music, and contemporary works, each bringing something different to the stage. From sharp comedy to moving drama and family-friendly musical fun, there’s a little something for everyone this season!

As always, we’re proud to continue creating live theatre that feels engaging, welcoming, and connected to our community here in Peterborough.
