Un-pausing the poncho! 🧵✨

After taking a quick detour last week to play around with binocular photography, I’m slowly getting myself back on track to finish this piece.

I wanted something that would challenge me, so I decided on the Moss Stitch for the main panels. It creates such a clean, flat texture without curling up at the edges, which is going to make attaching my 5-point flowers so much easier down the road.

I definitely got the challenge I was looking for, but the rhythm is picking up now. Step one is getting these panels done! 🌸🧶

Creative distraction at its finest... and yes, the poncho is officially on pause! ⏸️😅

My latest crochet project might be sitting in the corner unfinished right now, but that is because I got completely sidetracked by a little curiosity experiment.. 🤔

I was looking through my binoculars today and wondered, "Can I actually take a picture through these with my phone?"I just wanted to see if it would work, and it turns out I accidentally stumbled into a real photography technique called digiscoping! 📸✨

I had absolutely no clue this was an actual thing, but I am completely obsessed with how these turned out. I love the raw, nostalgic feel of that natural black ring framing the shot. 😍

Sometimes the best art comes from just playing around, letting your curiosity take over, and seeing what happens. 🤍✨

If there’s one thing about me, I’m all about adding extra sparkle! ✨ Today was so special because I finally experimented with gold flakes for the very first time...

But the absolute best part? I got to paint right alongside my son while he had a blast painting his own piece, and my daughter joined in coloring with her crayons. 🖍️🎨

I learned the hard way that it's nearly impossible to sew together 5 point flowers.. I probably should have made 6 point flowers. That would have been the sensible option. 🤷‍♀️

Also most of the videos I found join them as they go, who would've known how easy it could be. 🤦‍♀️

I ended up asking Gemini AI what the best way was to sew the flowers together to make a poncho... Which really helped! I was suggested to sew the flowers in a honeycomb pattern using a darning needle. Making two panels of 6 by 12 (72 flowers each side) then sewing the two panels together in a 'L' shape. 👍

After getting the first 7 flowers nearly put together, I've realized that I now have a 6 point flower, but it's a lot bigger than I would have wanted them to be. I can either make them to this point and then sew all the flowers together or do it the Gemini AI way.. 🤔

This project is proving to be the challenge I was looking for.. the question really is, do I want to make this more of a challenge? 😅

While it was fun practicing knitting, I decided on a new crochet project!.. 🥁🥁🥁

It's a poncho with a flowery pattern I created on my own.. I'm not sure if it will be lacey or not but we will see as I go.

Since I decided to make the flowers individually and stitch them together afterwards, I'll have to make at least 144 flowers. 😳 (So far I have 21.. only 123 to go!)

Fingers crossed this works out! I'm hoping to wear it when the nice spring weather comes back. 😅🤞
