Across the world, Indigenous Peoples sustain knowledge systems and cultural heritage that are deeply connected to their lands, waters and environments. Developed over generations, these traditions offer invaluable perspectives for addressing today's global challenges.
This International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to supporting Indigenous Peoples and ensuring that their languages, cultures, knowledge systems and worldviews receive the recognition they deserve.
Through the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022–2032) and initiatives that strengthen cultural heritage, community resilience and local stewardship, UNESCO works alongside Indigenous Peoples to help safeguard this living heritage for future generations.
Humanity's diversity is one of our greatest strengths. By valuing Indigenous Peoples and their contributions, we help protect an irreplaceable part of our shared heritage.
