The pieces in this album are part of a body of work by Roger Baker. They are intended to showcase the natural beauty and texture within the wood. Roger has achieved this by first, handturning carefully selected and laminated White Ash. Then, creating relief by sandcarving away the soft earlywood and leaving the harder, denser latewood. Finally, by using pigmented dyes and stains, he produces stunning highlights and contrasts, sometimes subtly, sometimes playfully. The final result is a wonderful visual and tactile experience that can be enjoyed on a mantle piece or, on the dinner table for people to lose themselves, marveling at the natural patterns with their eyes and fingertips.
