This piece is the inspiration for it. We'll bring you along for the journey 🤗

Textile stitching, mixed media 12.5 x 8.5 in., 32 x 22 cm., 2025

I create art to explore the dualities of human experience—longing and loss, strength and fragility, loneliness and belonging. My practice is also a bow to women’s creativity, historically overlooked and often relegated to the domestic or decorative.
I work with handmade paper, Japanese papers, bones, sewing notions, photos, boats, bottles, textiles, and found artifacts from home and nature. By recontextualizing the discarded or handmade, I give voice to hidden histories. My titles act as entry points into works that mine memory and ambiguity, offering space for reflection rather than singular meaning. Each piece connects to the next, forming a visual journal that unfolds over time. I create through my hands to nourish others through their eyes, framing each work in shadowbox structures that deepen their sculptural presence.

"I create hand-crafted works that explore the delicate interplay between nature and humanity. Through my art, I invite viewers to reflect upon and reimagine their connections to the environment and one another. My collages, which incorporate vintage photographs, natural imagery, and salvaged paper-based materials, offer a whimsical meditation on contemporary themes such as feminism, womanhood, and ecological sustainability."

Rebecca Clouâtre is a full-time artist and mother. In 2020, CBC Arts released a short documentary film about her artistic process. Her first major solo exhibition, “Maternal Collections”, was hosted by WKP Kennedy Gallery in North Bay, ON, in 2023. In 2025 she won the 1st place People's Choice Award in the international art competition ART COMP, held in London, ON. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the U.S.A.
