Founded in 2014, Rice Paper Designs started by selling origami cards and ornaments at local craft shows. Over time, the business has evolved and expanded to include other forms of paper art, including paper cutting, book binding, and box making. Based out of Ottawa, Ontario, Rice Paper Designs slow makes items that can be treasured, saved, and used for generations. This means using traditional techniques that have been taught for decades, along with carefully considered materials.

Just a quick post of a custom Dungeon Master Campaign Journal. It's always awesome to see how excited people get when they're able to get a journal as a gift for someone who has been so hard to shop for. I hope the recipient loved it!

I've been quiet here because I've been so busy making journals. But let me show you this amazingly cute journal I made recently.

Part of the request was to make this reusable with a half coffee/half tea insert. I was happy to oblige and the recipient was so happy with the final journal. Swipe to see my newly available tea tracker pages!

I was so happy when my previous client contacted me again asking for another book box. This time we went for a multi compartment box that could hold plenty of books.

It was very exciting utilizing all the tips and tricks I'd learned from the first box in this one. The box was even more solid and all the different pieces lined seamlessly. The dark blue bookcloth paired with the gold and blue Italian paper gives it such a rich look.

It's seriously such a joy to work on these boxes. They are so fun to design and make!

This small custom reusable journal also included an insert with watercolor pages. Most of my journals can be made with watercolor paper. Send me a message and we can chat about the many different kinds of paper that I have available in my bindery.

Just a little custom coffee tracker that's off to it's new home!

I can't believe how popular these trackers are. I need to find a better way to streamline the binding process. Right now it takes a fair amount of time to make each one, even when I do them in batches. But don't worry, they're part of my permanent catalogue.

I'm happy to finally announce my next round of bookbinding classes! I've done a bit of a swap, so I'm running the softcover class on a weekend and the hardcover class during the week. The length of these classes usually doesn't allow for this, but I'm trying something different in the hopes this will catch some of the people that have been unable to make it to a class so far.

You'll learn how to fold, stitch, and glue these journals and take home the final product! We always have lots of fun, and its a great way to socialize with new, creative people while slow making something with your own hands.
