Artist Spotlight: Don Lewis

Meet Don Lewis, whose painting and sculpture respond to a pressing question. As he puts it: “Humanity faces an existential crisis, and we seem unable to make the connection between the way most of us live our lives and our dying planet.”

Don’s work explores our lost “biophilia,” the physical and spiritual thread that connects us to the natural world we came from. He believes that without renewing this understanding that all things are connected, our future is uncertain.

Artist Spotlight: Darryl Kicul

Meet Darryl Kicul, whose sculptures are “a marriage between material and imagination.” His work incorporates backlit windows, stained glass, and intricate finishes, and by playing with light and shadow, he invites onlookers to enjoy the whimsy while exploring the deeper stories each sculpture holds.

Through these techniques, Darryl transforms raw materials into gateways to the imagination, inviting everyone who encounters his work to step into a world of wonder and possibility.

Artist Spotlight: Olga Kay-Grigoriev

Meet Olga Kay-Grigoriev, a wood sculptor living in Val-des-Monts, Québec. She creates her work from wood gathered in the surrounding Gatineau Hills, and her subjects are often inspired by the natural environment around her. Olga has a particular fascination with crows and other feathered friends, who often find their way into her pieces.

Her Rustically Elegant collection celebrates the charm and natural beauty of wood through carvings, standing figures, and unique wall arrangements.

Artist Spotlight: Nadine Argo

Meet Nadine Argo, whose work explores the struggle to find balance between the opposing natures we all carry within ourselves: to stay rooted or to take flight, when we must do both. Her pieces can be playful, but more often she finds them telling and powerful.

Her current work focuses on the individual and the fascination of the everyday, looking at the humanity of one person within a crowd. As Nadine puts it, she turns the old adage on its head: instead of not seeing the forest for the trees, "you can't see the individual beauty of one tree for the forest."

Artist Spotlight: Patrick Imai

Meet Patrick Imai, a stone carver who finds something primal in transforming a basic material of nature into a potentially everlasting expression of love, life, and beauty. As he puts it: "Stone carving consumes me."

When Patrick begins a carving, he feels an urgency to capture a feeling in the stone before it's lost. He touches the stone constantly to feel its form, texture, and flow, until the stone and his vision come together "to bring form to the spirit within the stone and within me."

Artist Spotlight: Lynn Glover

Meet Lynn Glover, who loves exploring human relationships and connections through narrative sculpture. Her work usually includes a figurative element, and her interest in faces as they age has become a central motif. She aims to connect people from all over the world in the realm of the ridiculous, absurd, or aggravating, which she calls "the juiciest bits of humanity."

Every piece carries a strong story, and Lynn loves working with colour. To keep those stories approachable for everyone, she often uses literal imagery, humour, and wordy titles to guide the viewer.

Artist Spotlight: Linda Foley

Meet Linda Foley, for whom happiness means being in the here and now. Whether she's working on a sculpture or an encaustic piece, she gets so absorbed that the world around her could fall apart without her noticing!

She sees sculpting as a feat of engineering that goes beyond molding a medium, especially with pieces that dangle or balance, like the ones she's bringing to this show. As she puts it: "The question I always ask myself is, am I out of my mind or can the concept in my head be realistically accomplished?"

Artist Spotlight: Eiko Emori

Meet Eiko Emori, who works in pâte de verre, a very ancient method of glass making. The process is the same one used for bronze sculpture, starting from a wax original, but the results are entirely different: full of light and colour.

Artist Spotlight: Hugh Dysart

Meet Hugh Dysart, whose art is inspired by his own visions and shaped by research into his chosen topic or object and the images connected to it. He creates abstract multimedia artworks, mostly sculptures, along with abstract paintings and prints, and aims to bring movement and a touch of the unknown into every piece.
