August 16 - Happy Scimitar-Horned Oryx Day ! ✨

Oryx are antelope-like animals who live in deserts and plains🌵 There are 4 species of oryx: Gemsbok-South African Oryx, Arabian Oryx(vulnerable species), Beira-South African Oryx (endangered) and Scimitar-Horned Oryx(endangered).

20 years ago, the Scimitar-Horned Oryx were considered completely extinct in the wild! But thanks to global conservation efforts, these majestic creatures were reintroduced in the wild and protected 🙏🏼💛 They are still endangered but this is a conservation comeback story worth celebrating!!! 🥳

Meet the Albert’s lyrebird, a shy songbird native to Australia🎶🇦🇺! These lyrebirds are super rare & super special (checkout their groovy courtship song & dance moves!) They are a threatened species due to habitat fragmentation and protected in New South Wales & Queensland 🌏🪶❤️

🎥 Ben’s Animals (2025) is part of 🇨🇦CBC’s Absolutely Canadian documentary series (Season 25, Episode 5) and can be streamed on CBC Gem 🎬

Ben Lachapelle has loved animals for as long as his family can remember.

Now 23, the Canadian autistic artist turns that connection into colorful illustrations filled with animals, imagination, and personality. His work has also become a way to speak about wildlife, environmental protection, and how he experiences the world. (Kids Brain Health)

His story is now the subject of Ben’s Animals, a documentary combining his artwork, childhood footage, animation, and family interviews.

The film explores how creativity helped Ben build connection and purpose, while also showing the challenges families can face when support systems are difficult to navigate. It premiered on CBC in 2025 before receiving its first US screening in New York in 2026. (Kids Brain Health)
