A whole lot of hugs for Miss Nicole!

At Express Yourself, we love watching our students learn new skills, build confidence and discover what they can do — but moments like this remind us that the connections they make along the way matter just as much.

Around the world we go! ✈

This one was a challenge — there was a lot of counting involved to keep those bodies moving and those hips swaying!

Miss Nicole, who also teaches Zumba, took our performers to Venezuela for this stop on our Around the World adventure, with a fun, high-energy street-party style routine.

They worked hard, kept the beat, and brought plenty of personality to it — scarves and all!

Another new style, another new challenge, and another chance to build confidence through performance.

This time of year behind the scenes at Express Yourself is a busy one — programs are being created, music is being chosen, registrations are coming in, schedules are being organized, emails are being answered, social media is being planned… and somewhere in the middle of it all, the financials are quietly waiting their turn.

There may be a little chaos on the desk, but every note, list and sticky note is part of building another season filled with singing, dancing, acting, creativity, confidence and connection.

Sometimes someone says something that stops you in your tracks.

Jimmy Carr was responding to a high school Dance and Drama teacher when he spoke about the things AI can’t replace — the deeply human parts of creativity, expression, individuality and connection.

His words really resonated with us:

“You’re teaching kids to be themselves… to be unique.”

That is so much of what the performing arts are about. Not creating children who are all trying to be “the best.” Helping them discover who they are.
To find their voice. To take up space. To create. To connect. To become more confidently themselves.

Or, as Jimmy put it: “Don’t be the best. Be the only.”

Express Yourself Performing Arts is about so much more than learning to sing, dance and act.

Our program gives children the opportunity to develop their performing arts skills while building confidence, finding their voice, learning to work with others and, most importantly, having fun.

With experienced teachers bringing a variety of skills and perspectives, students are encouraged to explore singing, acting and movement in a welcoming, supportive environment.

We believe the performing arts can help children grow both on the stage and beyond it.

Come travel with us!

This was the full practice run of our Summer Camp Week 2 Seniors Dance performance — and there was a lot more happening here than simply learning a routine.

The concept began with something we’ve all seen — an airport full of people heading somewhere, yet often completely wrapped up in their own little worlds.

Four of our students helped develop the final show, and Miss Nicole introduced them to contemporary dance for the very first time, using movement to turn that everyday airport scene into a story.

We love giving young performers the chance to do more than learn steps — to create, contribute ideas and discover new ways to tell a story.

And all of this came together in just one week.

At Express Yourself, we believe the arts can do more than build performance skills.

They can help young people develop the confidence, courage and awareness to care deeply about the world they will inherit. 🤗

Through music, movement and storytelling, we look for opportunities to explore meaningful ideas — including our responsibility to care for our planet and repair the damage that has been done.

Because creativity doesn’t exist apart from nature. It grows from our ability to notice, imagine, connect and see beyond ourselves. 🌱

Our artistic director believes one of the most important things we can give the next generation is the confidence to believe they can make a difference.
