All profits from these film screenings go directly to MAT.

We at Mariposa Arts Theatre are saddened by the passing of Fred Larsen earlier this week on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Almost immediately after planting roots in Orillia with his late wife Patricia in 1971, Fred joined MAT and starred as Captain Von Trapp in our 1972 performance of ‘The Sound of Music’. After retiring from teaching, he returned to the stage in 2005 for ‘Evita’ as Juan Peron. During this production, he found love again with Lois, with whom he was partnered to dance with in early scenes of the show. He went on to perform in ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘Fiddler On The Roof’ and ‘Guys & Dolls’ between 2006-2011 and, most recently performed in our 50th Anniversary Musical Revue in 2023, where he featured in a beautiful rendition of ‘Edelweiss’.

Fred was an active and highly-respected member of the Orillia community who was recognized as Orillia's Citizen of the Year in 2020. He championed the arts fiercely and is remembered very fondly by our theatre community. We send all of our love to Fred’s family and friends during this time.

Visitation Information
For those wishing to pay their respects, visitations will take place at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia on Sunday, September 13th, 2026, from 1 - 4 pm., and on Monday, September 14th 2026, at St. Paul's United Church, 62 Peter St., N., Orillia from 3 pm until time of Service at 4 pm. Reception to follow.

This show features several male and female-presenting roles, as well as a couple voice-over only parts!
