Petite mais féroce. Small but fierce.

The first painting of a mini series, meant to highlight the character, strength and beauty of women. A metaphorical way of doing so, yes because I paint mostly birds and wildlife. This series is going to highlight some of the gorgeous female birds that are often shrugged at because they aren’t as colourful as their male counterparts (although not always 😉). A parallel to how women are often treated compared to men.

Ever since my career shifted to art, I have always wanted to make sure that while originals have their place in people’s homes, so do smaller gifting items. I want people to be able to enjoy what I make, even if they cannot afford an original. I decided to start a small Etsy shop, beginning with bookmarks. They are made of wood, have my art pieces transferred onto them on the front, and you can have them personalized for a loved one. Link to the Etsy shop is in my bio as well as below. I just had to reveal this one outside!!! (Apologies for the sunglasses) I have been working on this one for a little while now, and I am thrilled to show you the final result! This piece originated from a clump of cinnamon caps mushrooms we bought from the market, but it became so much more than that. I wanted a piece that captures the feeling of strolling along, and stumbling upon something that stops you in your track and makes you think “wow, that is incredibly beautiful”. Whether it’s a flower, an animal, or a person. ❤️
This is a reminder to slow down and appreciate life.

Finished this little 10x10 yesterday! I love mushrooms, and when I paint them they actually feel like they are little people. Maybe it’s because I grew up playing Super Mario and mushrooms remind me of Toad? 😅 Regardless, I really like how this little family of mushrooms turned out.
