Hello Everyone,
Hope you are all doing well! We are just doing some spring cleaning at Balance Dance Centre the past week and have a bunch of the old Starcast photos and plaques from our groups! Oh, the memories... If any of you would like to stop by the studio tomorrow and grab some for keepsakes feel free. Also maybe message me personally or comment below if you would like to stop by and look through! Just so I can make sure I am around for you...

I will try and post some photos tomorrow of the ones we have, and you can let me know which ones you want!

Starcast Dance Academy has been sold to Miss Kristine Martin and has been officially renamed Balance Dance Centre. I cannot thank all my dance families for the years of memories we have had together and the honour of raising your beautiful kids!!!! We truly were a family and I will always be grateful to you all!

To all my dance teachers and staff over the past 15 years, no words! We always had the most incredible and dedicated human beings teaching at my studio. Love you all so much!!!

Keep in touch and know that you all left an impression on my heart!!! I am excited for my new chapter of full time hockey mom (poor Kenny)!

Don't forget to check out the Balance Dance Centre GRAND OPENING on Wednesday September 6th! See the new and exciting renovations, meet and say hello to the fabulous faculty and enjoy treats and prizes, as well as free dance classes!

Registration is at the studio on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 5:00-8:00pm.

Drop-in Summer Ballet Classes
Mrs Proust is offering Drop-in Ballet classes Tuesday & Thursday mornings from 10:00-11:30am through until August 31st. $10/class - These classes are open to all ages and levels.

IMPROV WORKSHOP WITH MISS TYRA

Workshops are a pivotal part of a dancer’s development, the experience gained from participation is invaluable. Students increase their versatility and growth as young professionals. Improvisation categories have become increasingly popular at competitions and auditions, improv training is a highly advantageous asset to any dancer resume. This workshop will focus on the foundations of improv, skill building, solo/partner/ group work, improving confidence, story telling, fluidity of movement with a heavy emphasis on musicality. This workshop will be based in contemporary, modern and jazz foundations.

Saturday March 25- 11:30 - 1:00 Studio 3
Cost: $25

Hiphop is a powerful, dynamic dance style, which improves overall coordination and flexibility and musicality. This workshop will include: a stretch and warmup, bootcamp style workout and fun, sassy femme style hiphop combo. Join our safe and fun class that can be modified for any fitness level. Bring a water bottle, active wear and non-marking indoor runners or jazz sneakers. No dance experience necessary.

Competition Reminders:

**How to pack your dance bag: (The night before competition)
Music iPod (if you have a copy to practice with)
Dance Shoes
Competition costume and tights
Warm up jacket
Water Bottle
Make up bag, elastics, band aids, bobby pins, safety pins
Granola snack, fruit

**How & When to arrive to the Competition

Arrive to your competition 1 hour before your competition time
Check in immediately with your teacher. Arrive with your hair already done, as per teacher’s requirements, with make-up already applied, and remember no underwear under your costume!!

**What to do the morning of competition:

Eat a healthy breakfast, (porridge, or eggs) Avoid high sugar cereals, drink lots of water, listen to music while you get ready… have a good morning! BE Sure …. To have a good ole bathroom break!!

Parents need to know that competition day is the dancer’s day. The focus and attention needs to be on their competitor.

Dancer’s should make a goal for the competition and it should not be to win gold...the dancer needs to make a goal based on things they have control over such as attitude, smiling, to dance clean etc.

Your main role, as the parent, in a competition is to be a support base and the fan cheering in the audience. Your child should know that no matter what the outcome may be that you will be proud of them.

One of the biggest ways to help your child be more successful in competition is to not talk about the competitors in which they will be competing against. You and your child have no control over how anyone else dances, you also have no control over the judges’ panel or their decisions. There is no point in dwelling over the things that you have no control over. Instead make sure your
child stays focused on themselves and their personal goals.

A Day of Girl Power & Inspiring Greatness in Okotoks

Starcast Dance Academy is hosting a Pop Up Shop by Ivivva lululemon, the active line for girls and Ivivva is asking all inspiring girl athletes to join Starcast for a girls’ day inspiring greatness with dance, music, & girl power activities while checking out the latest athletic wear from Ivviva!

The fun-filled day will feature many special guests including a workshop with Mr. Tyler Ayres of Cirque de Soleil fame and song performances by local singing talent Brettyn Rose on Saturday, March 18, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Starcast Dance Academy, 33 Elizabeth Street in Okotoks.

“We are very excited to be hosting a free open house to the community, featuring local celebrities with a fun-filled day of activities, “ explained Risa Atkinson, Starcast Parent Association board member, “inspiring greatness is the theme for the day, to create, inspire, and motivate local youth in our community with a day of free dance, and empowering activities”.

Other local celebrities dropping by to teach local workshops include Pound & Zumba classes with Tamara Boivin, Commercial Dance workshop with Miss Katie Burns, Breathe Easy to Stress Less with Miss Tracey Chiasson, the Nest Yoga & Mindfulness with Miss Rachel. Possak Hampshire Academy will be offering free preschool Irish drop-in classes and Starcast Dance Academy will be offering free preschool classes. Girls are encouraged to attend the vision board workshop and check out the photography booth by Dana Pugh Photography. And don’t forget about the face painting, hair braiding and nail painting stations. Crystal Salamon, a local artist and designer, will be offering inspirational colouring sessions. Raffles, door prizes, treats and more to explore on this extraordinary day of girl empowerment!
