On October 29, 2023 Oakville Chamber Orchestra performed all six of Johan Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos. The concertos were composed for a chamber (i.e. small) orchestra and each concerto features different instruments.

Over the six concertos there are seventeen soloists – 3 violins, 2 violas, cello, 2 flutes, 3 oboes, bassoon, trumpet, 2 horns, harpsichord and piano.

The concert was scheduled to be performed at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, but due to last-minute technical problems at that venue, moved to St Matthew Parish Church.

We thank Delta Bingo and Gaming and the Town of Oakville's Gaming initiative for supporting our orchestra and enabling us to present these great works!

Stephanie Numan Scholman began playing the violin at age 5, at the Hamilton Suzuki School of Music, and piano at age 9. She quickly became involved in chamber music and, at age 10, she joined the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra playing with them for five years, the last year as concertmaster.

About five years ago, she took up the viola, and is now principal violist of the Rose Orchestra Brampton, Oakville Chamber Orchestra, and Masterworks of Oakville.

Our first concert of 2024 will be taking place on Saturday, February 24 at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts.

In this concert we celebrate the wonderful music of ethnically Jewish composers (plus Prokofiev, whose work on this concert is a tribute to Jewish folk style).

Rhapsody in Blue is one of the best-known pieces of American music (just think about the American Airlines commercial, that’s why they have a piano keyboard on their airplanes’ tails).

The concert will also feature soloists Kevin McMillan and Aidan Leung.

Michael Rosenberger holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Master of Music in Orchestral Performance from the Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Michelle Reed Baker, former 2nd Horn of the Metropolitan Opera.

He coaches with the Niagara Youth Orchestra, with whom he is an alumnus, maintains a private teaching studio, and is an avid music arranger.
