The Polygon is one of Canada’s most acclaimed photography and media art galleries. The Gallery moved into its Governor General’s Medal winning building in 2017 after operating as Presentation House Gallery for 40 years. The organization has presented more than 300 exhibitions, and earned a reputation as one of Canada’s most adventurous public art institutions.

The Polygon Gallery is pleased to present Greg Girard, the first major survey of one of Canada’s most influential photographers, on view from July 10 – October 25, 2026.

The exhibition presents more than 160 photographs shot between 1972 and 2026, including never-before-seen outtakes from his iconic photobooks and new images from the Lower Mainland, tracing Girard’s evolution from a budding photographer to an internationally renowned artist. The exhibition will open at the same time as the launch of his new photobook, Greg Girard: Photographs 1972–2026.

The Polygon Gallery is pleased to present Deckchair Cinema V, beginning June 25 and happening every Thursday until August 27. You are invited to enjoy classic films under the stars on Cates Deck in front of the Gallery. Now in its fifth year, Deckchair Cinema treats audiences to a summer of al fresco screenings, which commence at sunset and are complemented by music and entertainment leading up to curtain time.⁠

This summer it’s game on as we screen the greatest sports films ever made.

Admission to Deckchair Cinema is by donation, courtesy of BMO Financial Group, and includes popcorn as well as access to the Gallery’s summer exhibitions Greg Girard, Simranpreeet Anand: Living with the Eternal, and James Harry: Eye of the Ancestor.

Calling all Indigenous filmmakers and visual storytellers! The Response Program is an opportunity to create a short video work through exploratory workshops devised by Indigenous artists and mentors. Inspired by diverse approaches to film and media across contemporary Indigenous art, Response: Cover with Care encourages participants to consider how intentionally veiling subjects can act as a form of protection and resistance. What do we choose to share and what do we keep for ourselves? How does asserting sovereignty over access change the power that is given to our stories?

Workshops will take place online during Summer 2026 followed by self-directed work in the Fall, helping participants to create an original film-based work on this year’s theme of concealment. Participants will have the opportunity to have their work included in the Response exhibition at The Polygon Gallery, North Vancouver in early 2027.

This program is open to artists of all ages and skill levels, though a basic understanding of technology is an asset. If you’re a beginner, let us know!

The program is free, and participants will receive $715 honorarium upon its successful completion.

About The Response Program
In 2014, Response—an outreach program that lifts the voice of Indigenous Youth— was successfully piloted. Relaunched in 2020, Response is now an annual film program involving a series of workshops led primarily by and for Indigenous people, culminating in an exhibition of participants’ work at The Polygon Gallery. The program invites ways of responding artistically to historical and contemporary images of Indigenous cultures.
