A bowl in the greenware stage, quietly drying and hopefully behaving itself 😊

I had fun experimenting with this one. Before slip casting, I dripped (or more accurately threw 😅) underglaze into the mold and then cast the bowl.

The brown colour comes from a previous cast with coffee clay, which wasn't part of the original plan but ended up creating a really nice effect. Sometimes the leftovers from one project become the best part of the next one.

Now the waiting begins...

A series of quiet bowls for a change 🤍

No bold patterns, no dramatic glaze experiments—just simple forms and soft colours.

The outside is finished with a clear glaze that shows the clay, while the interiors are glazed in a light blue-grey on two bowls and a soft white on the third.

Simple, functional, and understated. They fit nicely with my love of minimalist ceramics and pieces that let the food (or the flowers, or the fruit, or the ice cream 😅) take centre stage.

Donut vase in progress 🍩🏺

At this stage, everything is looking promising... but ceramics has taught me not to celebrate too early 😅

Next comes trimming, drying, bisque firing, glazing, glaze firing... and at every step there are countless opportunities for things to crack, warp, chip, stick, explode...

If this one survives the journey, I'll share the trimming process and the finished vase after firing.

For now, cautious optimism 🙂

More cup and handle experiments ☕🙂

I quite like this one. It feels a little different from my usual style—more geometric, a bit more mechanical, maybe even a little masculine.
The soft green glaze helps balance that out and keeps it from taking itself too seriously.

In my mind, this cup was destined for a tiny, very serious espresso. But I couldn't wait to try it, so it ended up being baptized with green tea instead 🍵😅

I've made this slip-cast cup before, but this is the first time I've used this glaze on this design—and I think it might be my new favourite 😊

The soft turquoise/minty green glaze catches the light differently from every angle.

It's one of those pieces that doesn't quite want to choose a single job. It works equally well as a generous tea cup or as a small bowl for olives, nuts, berries, ice cream, or whatever happens to be nearby 😅

Last life drawing session before a new chapter ✏️🙂

As many of you know, I'll be moving to Victoria soon. I've enjoyed facilitating these sessions over the years, but I'm also looking forward to joining a drawing group on the island and being a regular participant again for a while.

Thank you to Charles for modelling today, and thank you to everyone who joined us this season.

See you on the page, and hopefully around a drawing circle somewhere.

One of the things I love about ceramics is that a piece rarely has just one job 😊

This tiny tea cup works beautifully as a tea cup, but it also makes a lovely tea light holder and even a mini planter for a small succulent or cutting.

Ceramics are versatile. They can hold food, withstand heat, go in the oven, live in the fridge, help plants grow, hold flowers, organize small treasures… and occasionally become something completely different from what they were originally intended to be 😅

I'm curious: what are some unexpected ways you've repurposed ceramics in your home?
