🛒💻 WHERE TO BUY 💻🛒

I've had some inquiries about this and I figured it would be easy to tell you all in a post:

"Where can I purchase one of your pieces?"

For now, I am only selling via Instagram DM. I have considered Etsy, but I'm currently set on building up a large stock of items before setting up a shop on that site.

I've been working at getting a website going for quite some time now, and let me tell you that it's not an easy task 😅 I'm working with WordPress which has a huge learning curve. One of these days, I will have a website up and running!

So feel free to reach out! Send me a message if you like any piece I post or even if you're a fellow resin artist looking for tips or methods. I'm happy to share!

❓❔ WHAT IS IT ❔❓

Big surprise, it's another Mushroom Cube 😅 but let me tell you why this one is a little different!

I've recently received an extremely helpful tip from an experienced resin artist - I've been casting my pieces the wrong side up! 🔃

Now there really is no wrong way to use your molds, but there are some things that you can do to make sure your resin project comes out pristine 💎

You see, when resin cures it has a tendency to shrink. The way I was setting up my scenes, the mouth of the mold was at the top. So, if you were to look back at my previous cube projects, you'll see sharp edges and a bit of a dip at the top.

By building your scene upside down, you get a perfectly flat top with no shrinkage! Then all that sharpness can be sanded right off 😁

☁️🍄 WHIMSICAL CLOUDS 🍄☁️

A huge improvement from my first cloudy Mushroom Cube!! 🤌 So what's changed?

Tools. Experience. Confidence. But mostly tools 😂

For Christmas, my family got me a vacuum chamber! This is a large, heavy duty container with a pressure gauge and all the fittings to attach a vacuum pump 💨 I can now place my resin inside the chamber, turn on the pump, and I get to watch as it vacuums all this little micro bubbles out of my resin 😁

This tool has been something I've looked at since I first realized that bubbles were an issue, but it felt like too big of an investment as a beginner crafter. It has absolutely changed the game for me; Crystal clear castings from here on out!! (hopefully 😬)

🌅🍄 WATCHING THE SUNSET 🍄🌅

Did you know that, like humans, many mushrooms can synthesize Vitamin D when exposed to sunlight? ☀️

Today, I'm extremely excited to share a new line of totems that I'll be creating 😁

✨ MUSHROOM CRYSTALS ✨

After admiring the posts and molds created by Rachelle for so long, I decided to put some practice into mold care and bought a few of her awesome silicone molds!

The difference between the molds she creates and many of the molds that I purchased on mass production sites is insane - you don't really realize how big of a shift in clarity and shine occurs until you buy your first high quality mold.

If you are getting into resin work and have a craving for a naturally beautiful look, I highly recommend researching proper mold care before purchasing a high quality mold.

Until then, there's absolutely nothing wrong with molds from Amazon or AliExpress - they are great for learning foundational skills and even better for making mistakes!

🦉🪶 OWL FEATHER BOOKMARKS 🪶🦉

*Disclaimer*
These are real barn owl feathers that were sourced ethically, legally, and locally. No owls were harmed in the making of these bookmarks!

This was a very exciting and challenging piece for me because it forced to me use some techniques and tools ⚒️ that I'd never used before!

1️⃣ First off, we have the mold (or lack thereof). Casting something as big as a barn owl 🦉 feathers didn't leave me very many options as far as silicone molds go.

SO, what I ended up doing was placing down a silicone sheet and pressing down some white polymer clay as a border - it's a technique I've seen many others use, but never found a reason to try myself.

I found that the best part of this technique is that it doesn't require you to bake the clay! That means it's totally reusable.
(although I'm not sure how many times you could get away with using the same clay 😂)

2️⃣ Secondly, I got to try my Dremel for the first time! For those of you who don't know what a Dremel is, it's simply a tool with a variable speed rotating end. You can fasten on all sorts of tips for shaping, sanding, or cutting.

I mostly used the Dremel to remove excess clay from the edges of the bookmarks once they were finished curing.

After that, I threw on a sanding bit to give it some shape and smooth it out.

🌺🎗️ FLORAL COASTERS 🎗️🌺

That's it! With the end of 2020, I also find myself at the end of my big commission pieces! (Aside from a couple residual small ones)

This last year's has been a life-changing one for so many reasons, but I enjoy keeping my focus on some of the good that came of it :) so here's my personal list of 2020 positives:

1️⃣ An amazing amount of support from friends, family, and strangers with my business ✊

2️⃣ A thriving relationship with the best partner a guy could ask for 💜

3️⃣ So many opportunities and challenges that have pushed me to discover the kind of person that I'd like to be 🧘

4️⃣ Trips to both Iceland & London before travel was restricted ✈️

5️⃣ Rekindling an appreciation for nature and the world 🌿

6️⃣ A solid group of people that I have the privilege to call my friends and family ❤️

7️⃣ Living in such a beautiful and safe neighborhood 🏡

For everyone out there who feels like 2020 was the worst year, I sincerely hope that it brought you all some positives 🙏 and if it didn't, then out with the old and in with the new!

OH, and here's my last commission of the year - a set of 4 floral coasters for my old highschool friend!!

Pause & Relax.

Take a moment to breathe.

Realize that, in this moment, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from appreciating the beauty around you.

Something as simple as the light in your room - all the intricate designs that were conjured up and perfected over so many years; tying together both natural processes and human intellect to bring brightness to your home.

Something as precious as a mushroom on a tree - working, living, and thriving in tandem, yet in such vastly different ways.

The world is simply going; no matter what deadlines you have to make, no matter what's on your plate.

So stop. Take a second and look around. Nothing around you is as simple as it seems.

Another Day, Another Cube ☺️ I'm so happy to have a chance to get back to some photography of my pieces 📸

This piece is custom made for a very sweet supporter of mine from Vancouver Island! Inspired by our rainy home, we wanted to mix the driftwood aspect with the cubic shape!

It will be off to its new home today 🤗
