Lights Up! A musical r***e that lights up our lives - Show opens next week!

Lights Up! - Featured cast member: Ken Irwin

Meet Ken Irwin, a lifelong musical theatre performer and the only cast member who has been in all of Highlands United Productions shows over the past 11 years!

He was on stage in our first musical, Godspell, then played Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, Mayor Shinn in Music Man, and the ship's Captain in Anything Goes. In this year's musical r***e he tackles many roles, including tilting at windmills with his squire by his side.

We are all very excited about the upcoming production of "Lights Up! - A Musical R***e that Lights Up our Lives". Rehearsals are well underway, as are costume designs, plans for set pieces and props, and all the other details that go into producing a musical. Tickets for the March 1 - 4 production will be available on Sunday, January 29, so make your plans, tell your friends and families, and get your tickets! We can't wait!

An incredible day today! All that snow didn't stop a great group from auditioning for Lights Up! On top of that, we started in a power outage - but the show must go on!! Wonderful talent and really wonderful people. We met some for the first time - you were fabulous! And we met some again for the first time since the day we closed Anything Goes for COVID. A very happy reunion! We are looking forward to tomorrow night's auditions and then getting rolling with the rehearsals. Here we go!

Lights Up Production 2023
"Auditions for "LIGHTS UP!" will take place at Highlands on Sunday, December, 18, 2-5pm in the Highlands gym, and Monday, December 19, 6:30-9pm in the sanctuary.
Are you considering auditioning, but don't know what to expect? It's actually very simple...
First, you will complete an information form.

We will then teach everyone a song together and you will be asked to sing a very short section by yourself.

Then we will teach the whole group a short dance and you will be asked to repeat it with a small group.

That's all that you have to do. If you choose, you will be given the chance to sing a musical theatre song of your choice. Please make it no more than 32 bars long, and choose the sections that best showcase your vocal abilities. A pianist will be provided: please bring sheet music or an accompaniment that can be played through the speaker provided (male mini-jack will plug into phone or dongle).

Rehearsals through January will be Sunday afternoons and Monday and Tuesday evenings. Wednesday evenings will be added in February and the last two weeks will be almost every day. You will only be required at rehearsals for numbers in which you are cast for the first few weeks, but after we put the show together you will be required at all rehearsals.

Audition Venue: Highlands United Church, North Vancouver
Audition Requirements: This community, all-volunteer production is open to everyone! The show will require a full cast of thirty or more, all ages, all ethnicities, all genders, and will include solos, small groups, full chorus numbers, something for everyone! Rehearsals will begin in January on Sunday afternoons and Monday / Tuesday evenings, adding Wednesday evenings in February.

Notes: We are returning to productions with a r***e, hoping the pandemic can be put behind us. We have received nominations for Outstanding Community Musical productions in the past and after losing our most recent show (Anything Goes) to COVID, we are excited to begin anew!
