What a wonderful first Sketch in the City session!

A huge thank you to our partners at the City of North Bay, Opera Bakery Café, and Maison Khloe for helping bring this new community arts initiative to life.

While the rain may have redirected our plans from the patio to the gallery, it certainly didn’t dampen the creativity. Participants spent the morning sketching our inspiring model, Willow, beautifully styled by Shannon of Maison Khloe, while enjoying coffee and treats generously provided by Opera Bakery Café.

The talent and enthusiasm in the room were incredible. In fact, Shannon was so inspired by the artwork created during today’s session that a selection of sketches and illustrations will be professionally framed and displayed at Maison Khloe throughout the summer!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this first session and helped transform a rainy morning into a celebration of art, fashion, and community.

What a perfect way to kick off the weekend! We hope to see you on June 27th 10-12Noon for the next session!

The City of North Bay and the WKP Kennedy Gallery are proud to present Sketch in the City, a series of free outdoor life drawing events taking place throughout downtown North Bay this summer.

Each session features a live model styled by a local fashion boutique and hosted on the patio of a downtown restaurant or café, bringing together art, fashion, community, and local business in a unique public experience.

Join us this Friday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Opera Bakery Cafe for our first session, featuring styling by Maison Khloe.

Sketch in the City is free to attend and open to all ages and skill levels. Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note: If patio seating fills up, a limited number of portable easels will be available. Participants are also welcome to bring a yoga mat or blanket and sketch from a nearby spot outdoors.

Bring your sketchbook and drawing materials, settle in with a coffee, and enjoy a creative morning in the heart of downtown North Bay!

“Emergence and Alchemy” is an introspective exhibition exploring healing, transformation, and self-discovery. Through artworks made with organic and recycled materials, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on love, grief, growth, and the beauty that can emerge from pain. Rooted in the artist’s personal journey of repair and resilience, the works bring together fragmented emotions, memories, and identities, encouraging viewers to embrace vulnerability, renewal, and our shared humanity.

About the Artist:
My name is Janette Woodrow, a multidisciplinary artist based in Sudbury, Ontario, with a deep affinity for textiles and beadwork. My practice is shaped by personal reflection and the quiet moments of softness that art allows me to explore. Through colour, texture, and movement, I create works that shift between fluidity and structure, mirroring emotion and inner experience.

I create because art reconnects me to my body and keeps me grounded within myself. It guides me through life with tenderness, care, and love — like a ballad, a dance, or a lifelong partnership.

🍽️ ALL YOU CAN EAT 🍰 On view at the WKP Kennedy Gallery from May 26 – July 3, 2026 in Gallery I.

ALL YOU CAN EAT is a playful, food-inspired square foot exhibition celebrating creativity in bite-sized form. Bringing together a diverse range of artists and mediums, this community exhibition explores food as a universal connector.

From cherished family recipes and comfort foods to midnight snacks, cultural traditions, and indulgent cravings, each artwork offers a unique interpretation of taste, memory, identity, and ritual. The exhibition invites viewers to experience food not only as something we consume, but as something deeply tied to storytelling, nostalgia, and human connection.

To heighten the immersive atmosphere, the gallery has been transformed into a multi-course dining experience, divided into playful “courses” from starters and drinks to entrées and dessert, where each artwork becomes a dish in a feast for the eyes.

Extending beyond the gallery walls, visitors are also invited to explore a collaborative community recipe book featuring handwritten recipes contributed by participating artists, encouraging the sharing of stories, traditions, and signature dishes throughout the community.

We also encourage you to add your own recipe to the collection!

Bon appétit. 🎨
