Our friends at Alger Furniture & Appliances shared this beautiful moment today. Seeing the team in our Lead With Love shirts, surrounded by Indigenous art they feature in their store, meant so much to us. Miigwetch for walking alongside our community today and throughout the year. 🧡

Today, we took a moment to reflect, to listen, and to remember.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity for all of us to learn more about the history and ongoing impact of residential schools, to honour Survivors and their families, and to remember the children who never made it home.

As a small local business, we know that reconciliation isn’t something that can be summed up in a single day. It’s about continuing to learn, having meaningful conversations, supporting our community, and treating one another with kindness and respect.

Today, we supported our community by wearing shirts created by an amazing, local, indigenous business: Anishwe.

Every other day, we support indigenous artists by featuring their art on our store walls, and provide an area for people to see beautiful traditional and modern indigenous art pieces.

Both of these actions are just a small piece of what we can and will do to continue supporting and honouring our indigenous communities.

Our hearts are full. 🧡

Every single orange shirt we brought sold out. There were people gathered all around our booth, a lineup waiting to get their pieces, and people still asking after everything was gone. We’re still taking it all in.

To everyone who bought from us, shared our work, stopped to talk, or believed in what we’re building with ANISHWE: miigwech. Thank you for showing up for us. Behind every piece are our hands, our time, and our family. To feel that much love and recognition from our community means more than we can put into words.

Today also holds a meaning much deeper than anything we could sell. We honour the children who never came home, the Survivors, and the families and communities who continue to carry that pain. We hold space for them alongside our gratitude.

Every Child Matters is a responsibility we carry beyond September 30. It lives in how we listen to children, protect them, make room for their voices, and remind them that they belong. It lives in how we care for Survivors, our Elders, and the generations around us.

That is what Lead With Love means to us. We hope the care we felt today follows all of us into our homes and our everyday lives. The little ones we look after today will one day look after us. What we give them now helps shape the future they will inherit.

It hurts to hear people argue against a day that asks us to remember, listen, and care. Our hope is that more hearts will open—that people will choose to learn, even when it feels uncomfortable, and see the possibility for change. We want a future where our children feel safe, valued, and proud of who they are.

After all the making, packing, and deliveries, we’re ready to rest and spend some time with our little ones. We’re tired, grateful, and carrying so much love from this community.

And we wanted to return with something that is deeply personal to us and closely connected to our own families and communities.

Introducing the ANISHWE Lead With Love Orange Shirt Collection.

Created for Orange Shirt Day, each original design features an adult animal moving forward with its young following behind.

At the heart of the collection is one simple message:

Lead With Love.

Teach with love.
Guide with love.
Protect with love.
Carry our children forward with love.

Orange Shirt Day means a lot to us personally. Like so many Indigenous families, our own families continue to carry the effects of the residential school system across generations.

September 30 is a day to remember the children who were taken, honour Survivors and their families, and recognize the generations who continue to live with those impacts today.

We created this collection with remembrance at its heart, but also with hope for the generations coming after us. 🧡

$5 from every item sold will be donated locally, with proceeds supporting NFN Walking Alongside Services at Nipissing First Nation and Indigenous youth programming through the North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre.

This collection is open to everyone.

Individuals, families, businesses, schools, organizations, teams and community groups are all welcome to order.

With September 30 approaching quickly, orders are open now and we encourage anyone hoping to have their Orange Shirt Day apparel in time to place their order as soon as possible.

MEET THE MAKER • AZALEA 🌸
Prairie Girls Creations

There’s something special about getting to discover a maker at the beginning of their journey. ❤️

Meet Azalea, the artist behind Prairie Girls Creations.

Azalea is Cree, originally from Montreal Lake Cree Nation, with her reserve being Little Red River. She’s a newer beadwork maker who has been learning, experimenting and beginning to develop designs that are completely her own.

And we LOVE where she’s taking them. ✨

Bright colours. Beautiful stones. Unexpected combinations. Even intentionally mismatching pieces, because sometimes the things that aren’t supposed to match are exactly what belong together.

Today, Azalea brings Prairie Girls Creations to the ANISHWE Indigenous Makers Market for the first time.

Come discover her work, meet the maker behind it, and maybe leave with one of her early creations before we all get to see where this journey takes her. ❤️

MEET THE MAKER • LACEY 🧶❤️

Bella Soul Designs

Meet Lacey Gelsumini, the creator behind Bella Soul Designs, joining us at the ANISHWE Indigenous Makers Market this Saturday!

Lacey is from Six Nations of the Grand River and creates one-of-a-kind crochet clothing and stuffies, with many pieces coming from her own original designs. She also gives materials a second life, sourcing yarn from thrift shops and even taking apart old blankets to create something completely new.

Her goal is simple: to keep creating and turn what she loves into her full-time dream. ❤️

MEET THE MAKER: MINDY CALLAGHAN ✨

Mindy's Unique Creations

It’s time to start introducing the people who will be joining us for the ANISHWE Indigenous Market.

And we’re beginning with Mindy Callaghan of Kebaowek First Nation in Kipawa, Quebec. ❤️

Mindy creates beautiful, detailed beadwork ranging from wearable pieces to larger statement works. We had some fun showcasing a few of her pieces in a different way, but nothing compares to seeing the craftsmanship up close.

On August 29, you’ll be able to meet Mindy, see what she has created and support her work directly.

MIIGWECH, NORTH BAY. 💜

What an unforgettable weekend.

Thank you to the BAY BLOCK PARTY, Capitol Centre, Downtown North Bay & Waterfront, Downtown Gallery Hop and every organizer, artist, musician, technician, engineer, vendor, staff member and security worker who helped bring our downtown to life.

And thank you to every single person who came through ANISHWE.

You painted with us. You made shirts and bracelets. You brought your kids. You supported our artists and makers. You laughed with us, talked with us and filled this little store with more life than we could have imagined.

People of all ages, nations, cultures and backgrounds walked through these doors this weekend.

That’s the kind of downtown we believe in.

That’s the kind of community we want ANISHWE to be part of.

Tonight the purple lights are still on, the paint is still drying and we’re sitting here feeling incredibly grateful.

Thank you for letting our little place be part of something so big.
