Experts have long believed that the Bible could not have been written during the era in which the events it describes were actually unfolding. Researchers say that Hebrew script simply hadn't yet evolved enough for that to be possible. Conventional wisdom thus suggests that later authors wrote the first five books of the Bible at least 500 years after its stories would have taken place.

But now, an astonishing find made by archaeologists in Israel has completely upended centuries-old ideas about who wrote the Bible and when. Researchers digging at Mount Ebal just unearthed a 3,200-year-old tablet containing a proto-alphabetic Hebrew script unlike anything they'd ever seen before. Not only does the tablet feature a chilling curse as well as the actual name of God, it also proves that Hebrew writing evolved several hundred years earlier than experts once thought. The archaeologists behind this astonishing discovery now say that, "The person who wrote this text had the ability to write every text in the Bible."
