All of us at the Newmarket Folk Society wish John Showman a full recovery. We send our best wishes to his family at home and to his musical family as well. We will all be glad to hear The Lonesome Ace Stringband play when they are ready. We were going to make a donation, but can see that donations have been paused. It is lovely that so many have supported this campaign so that John can focus on his recovery.

Congratulations to our friend, Lennie Gallant, on his ECMA for Folk Album of the Year! All of us at Newmarket Folk Society love having you and your wonderful band , and we hope to see you again in Ontario soon.

An all around amazing time last night during the ECMA’s Gala Awards show in Sydney NS, where I received Folk Album Of The Year for Shelter From The Storms, my first English language album in 7 years. During the Gala my band and I performed God’s Reply from that album, in honour of those who moved on in the past year. Then after the big show the band and I returned to the hotel in time to see the Habs score the last couple goals in their 6-2 playoff win over the Hurricanes! To cap it off we went to the ever popular Flocase where I got to jam with the amazing Flo Sampson on piano and had everyone sing along! Looking forward to the rest of the weekend here in one of my favourite cities.

Thank you to all who came out to our final show of the season, our Canadian Songwriter Tribute. Our six fabulous performers did an amazing job in their individual sets, and here they are in one of our finale songs, « Both Sides Now » by Joni Mitchell.
