À LA RECHERCHE D’UN PASSAGE VERS LE FUTUR
Nous avons conçu cette installation pour créer un pont entre les trois principales cultures de notre région : mi’gmaq, française et anglaise.
Malheureusement, le moment ne convenait pas à une participation des Mi’gmaqs de la communauté voisine de Gesgapégiag.
Alors nous avons plutôt tenté d’initier un début de dialogue avec nos voix de descendants des colonisateurs français et anglais, et résolument honnêtes à l’égard de notre héritage ancestral.

La Pointe Duthie et l’estuaire de la rivière Grande-Cascapédia ont sans doute été un premier point de contacts sur L’Île de la Tortue (Amérique du Nord).
Comprendre réellement ce que ces premiers contacts ont créé pourrait nous aider à avancer, ensemble.
SURTOUT APRÈS L’ANNÉE PROTO-APOCALYPTIQUE QU’A ÉTÉ 2023
Les incendies de 2023 nous servent un avertissement qui ne peut être ignoré – que la terre brûle est une conséquence directe de la colonisation et de son double, le capitalisme. Cette vision du futur à travers le prisme de nos expériences passées et actuelles peut aider à trouver des solutions durables.
IN SEARCH OF A PATH TO THE FUTURE
This installation was conceived as a way of bridging between the three main cultures in our region: Mi’gmaq, French and English.
Unfortunately, the timing was not good for the Mi’gmaq in the neighbouring community of Gesgapegiag.
Therefore, we decided to initiate a dialogue by using our voices as descendants of French and English speaking colonists, and by being resolutely frank about our ancestry.

HERE IN THE BAIE-DES-CHALEURS
OUR ANCESTORS WERE AMONGST THE FIRST EUROPEANS TO STEAL THE LAND FROM INDIGENOUS PEOPLE AND TO EXCLUDE THEM FROM THEIR WATERWAYS.
Point Duthie and the estuary of the Grande-Cascapedia River were probably a place of first contact on Turtle Island (North America).
A clear understanding of what this engendered could help us to find a way forward, together.
ESPECIALLY AFTER THE PROTO-APOCALYPTIC YEAR THAT WAS 2023
The fires of 2023 served as a warning that should not be ignored. The earth is burning as a direct consequence of colonization and its twin, capitalism. Perhaps this glance toward the future through our past and present can help to create sustainable solutions.
