Good morning!
I have talked to some people already, but others not as much, so I will give you a quick rundown as to why I am contacting you with this awesome opportunity.
You may have heard an announcement made by the government this week, regarding a way students' can earn money for school while volunteering in their community. I have been hired to be a facilitator for this program and am reaching out to those students' who may be interested in being part of this initiative. Of course, I don't know all of the students in our local or provincial community, so aside from this being something you can be involved in, you can also send the information to your friends so that they can also earn money and be empowered at the same time.
So, what is it exactly? Good question. The best way to get most of your questions answered in that respect would be to check out the website https://www.iwanttohelp.org/en-CA/ This will direct you as to how to learn more and how to register. There you will find out if you are eligible to apply and what opportunities are available. Not ALL of the opportunities are listed, as we are developing some locally specific opportunities like working with Dreamcoat to provide virtual Performance and Fine Arts Camps, the Food Bank, library, local churches and Gathering Place etc. You might even already have something you are interested in doing and connected with.....we can follow up and try to make that happen.
VERY IMPORTANT -- VERY VERY IMPORTANT if you do register you need to use my code ED4031 as you will then be connected to me and I can help you find your placement and guide you through it.
THE MONEY PART - That's what you really want to know! For every 100 hours of volunteer time you will receive $1000.00 up to 500 hours for $5,000.00. Depending on the volunteer task, these hours can be very flexible and do not need to be completed until the end of October. YOU MUST be enrolled in school for the Fall (2020) or the Winter (2021). (So, January entry students can qualify). YOU CAN'T have received the CERB, but it is TOTALLY OKAY if you have received CESB (that's the student one).
So, next steps for you:
Check out the website
If you like what you see register (USE THE CODE ED4031 to register so you are attached to me and not some random person in Toronto)
We will schedule a ZOOM conference with all those that will be our volunteer team (Everyone can have a different placement I just like that we will be a team,....we will need a group name!) This meeting will allow us to go over the details and opportunities. Probably won't be until mid of next week.
SHARE THE OPPORTUNITY - I need up to 40 volunteers as there are many many many parts of our community that need our help. They just need to be individuals heading to or enrolled in post-secondary school (up to the age of 30 and if they are in a different city that is okay, I can work with them virtually.)
Once we are all set up your training will begin (You get your first 25 hours just by completing online modules!! Then you get prep time hours and the content hours, pending what you volunteer placement is).
It is a great opportunity with everything from tutoring students, working with creating online content, and whatever other amazing ideas we can come up with!!!
PLEASE message me back and let me know if you have any questions and if you are interested. I will be getting a government email very soon, and we will communicate through that email over the course of the program.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Jocelyn Bell-Summersby.
