North Valley Mountain Film Festival

North Valley Mountain Film Festival It is now an annual event thanks to community interest and support, and a committed group of volunteers. Thanks to all the local folks for their submissions.

The North Valley Mountain Film Festival is a local grassroots event showcasing films that encapsulate a mix of mountain culture and environmental topics through film and slide presentations, featuring talented local filmmakers and photographers. Inspired by our mountain culture here in the North Slocan, a handful of local adventurers and wilderness lovers have been organizing the North Valley Moun

tain Film Festival. We are happy to bring you another fantastic evening of films and photography for our 5th mountain film festival. This festival is inspired by what drew, and keeps, many of us here – the lake, mountains, wilderness, adventure, and simple healthy living. We seek to showcase a mix of professional and home-grown productions to bring awe, laughter, intrigue, and discussion to the community. We feature shows from local to regional, and sometimes from a little farther afield.

"Following the Water", by Tsuneko Kokubo, is a film about Koko and an ambitious project, and it will be shown at our Film Festival this Saturday, March 7th.

A practicing artist in her late eighties, Koko lives and works in Silverton, BC, deep in the heart of Kootenays, the site of the Japanese Canadian internment of the 1940s. "Following the Water" marks Koko’s most ambitious undertaking to date. With arts funding from the Japanese Canadian Legacies Society Community Fund, she created one of three monumental canvases, each measuring 30 feet long by 5 feet tall that weave a powerful narrative that explores the profound impact water has to shape and define both the physical environment and the human experience.

Chester wants you to come and enjoy the 20th Annual Mountain Film Festival next Saturday, March 7th!

Chester himself is being featured during our evening. "Chester’s Turn" is a short mountain film narrated from the perspective of an old dog who has seen enough winters to know what matters. Set at Summit Lake Ski and Snowboard Area in the West Kootenays, the film reflects on time, aging, and the quiet urgency of getting outside before life slips past.

We are only 8 days away from the 20th Annual North Valley Mountain Film Festival!

In addition to numerous amazing films, we have a short presentation from Douglas Noblet. Douglas Noblet is a Nelson BC based nature and aerial photographer. You’ll find him exploring the outdoors throughout BC and beyond. He is also a pilot, avalanche professional and a Search and Rescue volunteer.

The presentation will bring you on three ski traverses through the entire length of the Selkirk, Purcell and Monashee mountains, along with some pre-trip planning and logistics that go along with long trips.

Tickets are still available at Raven's Nest in New Denver and at Silverton Building Supplies! We hope to see you there!

The next film we are highlighting is "Parallel Lines" by Tristan La Haye and Rylie Denis.
