Nelson Choral Singers Concert: A Place for Every Voice
April 25th, 4 pm and 7:30 pm, Nelson United Church

Now for something different! With Nelson Choral Singers’ long-time music director Kathleen Neudorf taking a short break, the choir has instead been working with guest director David Lane. He brings a new and exciting repertoire and a different vibe — one the choir has embraced whole-heartedly.

Lane is a multi-talented jazz singer, keyboardist, educator, beatboxer and vocal coach. A dynamic and engaging performer, he has12 years of international touring experience singing in small ensembles, acapella groups, and larger choral groups. He’s formerly of the multi Juno-nominated vocal quartet “Cadence,” and currently sings with a New York City-based Pop/R&B acapella group called “Duwende”. Since relocating to Nelson four years ago, he has also been rehearsal pianist with Lalin Vocal Ensemble

In selecting repertoire for this Nelson Choral Singers concert, Lane says his guiding principle has been "feel-good music that is gratifying to sing and has an uplifting message.”

“The music chosen has a focus on the joys of singing together, building each other up through music, and using choir as a way to create community and belonging.”

The result is a wonderfully eclectic mix of choral styles and rhythms. If you last heard the choir in concert singing Handel’s Messiah in December, this could not be more of a switch.

The 60-member choir will be accompanied by Carlisle Beresford on piano, Rob Fahie on double bass, and Jamie Carter on drums.

Two performances on Saturday April 25th, 4 pm and 7:30 pm, at the Nelson United Church, 602 Silica Street. Tickets are $15 for adults ($10 for children 12 and under). They will be available at Otter Books after March 11 or at the door. Cash only, please.

Sing Hallelujah! with the Nelson Choral Singers

Have you ever wanted to sing Handel’s magnificent Hallelujah Chorus? Accompanied by a four-part choir and orchestra? This heart-palpitating experience can be yours!

As you may know, the Nelson Choral Singers will be performing Handel’s choral masterpiece, the Messiah, at the Capitol Theatre in December.

(Two performances, December 13 at 7:00 pm and December 14 at 2:00 pm. Tickets available at the Capitol Theatre. Do come!)

The choir is inviting members of the community to join them to sing the most famous and exuberant selection — the Hallelujah Chorus.

You don’t know the Hallelujah Chorus? We can fix that!

Here’s the plan. Community members pay $10 to come to the choir’s regular rehearsal on Wednesday December 3rd at 7:30 pm. The choir’s musical director Kathleen Neudorf will guide you through the Hallelujah Chorus, with back up from the choir.

No prior singing or choral experience is necessary. Just be willing and excited to participate. No worries if you don’t think your voice is performance-ready. There will be a wall of sound, and no-one will notice. The big choir will carry you along.

You’ll be provided with a printed copy of the music (you can also download the pdfhttps://downloads.bbc.co.uk/musictv/sing/hallelujah/resources/bbc_sing_hallelujah_chorus.pdf ). There will be a small fee ($10) to cover costs.

You are welcome to just come to this one rehearsal, for a taste of choral experience. But better yet, buy a ticket to the Messiah concert and, when the choir gets to the Hallelujah Chorus, we’ll invite you to stand up and sing with the choir and the orchestra. Hallelujah!

So, come to the rehearsal on Wednesday December 3rd, 7:30 pm at the United Church, 602 Silica Street (rear entrance). Experienced Messiah singers are also invited to participate in this community singalong. Just show up on time and bring $10 cash. The rehearsal should last less than an hour.

To purchase tickets for the Messiah concerts on December 13 and 14, go to www.capitoltheatre.ca
