We are excited to announce our upcoming Professional Development Workshops in Maple Ridge next month!

Where: 12209 206th Street in Maple Ridge
When: Sunday, June 14th
Cost: $15 per each hour-long session

The Educator's Motive:
πŸ•™ from 10 am to 11 am
Educational leadership development often focuses on the how β€” the skills, the strategies, the tools. But what if you have not first answered a more fundamental question: why do you serve as an Early Childhood Educator? In this workshop, we examine two very different reasons people step into eductaor roles β€” and why one of them quietly undermines everything an ECE leader tries to build. You will be invited to take an honest look at your own motivations, reflect on how they show up in your day-to-day practice, and consider what it truly means to lead in service of others rather than for the rewards your work brings. If you are an early childhood educator, carry responsibility for a room, a team, or a center, this workshop will challenge the way you think about your role β€” and why that matters deeply for everyone who depends on you.

Care Plans
πŸ•¦ from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm
Children with complex needs, medical conditions, allergies, or developmental differences require individualized care plans that go beyond general program policies. This workshop supports floor staff in understanding what a strong care plan looks like, how to read and implement one effectively, and what their role is in contributing to and updating that plan over time. We cover how to collaborate with families, specialists, and colleagues to ensure care plans reflect the child's current needs and are consistently followed across all staff. Participants will also explore the documentation practices and communication strategies that keep care plans alive and actionable β€” rather than filed away and forgotten.

Time Management and Task Delegating:
πŸ•™ from 10 am to 11 am
It can feel like there are never enough hours in the day. In a child care environment, where priorities shift by the minute and the unexpected is always just around the corner, managing your time well is a survival skill. In this workshop, we take an honest look at where your time is actually going, what is getting in the way of your focus, and how to build systems that help you stay on top of what matters most. We will explore the art of delegation β€” not as a way of offloading work, but as a leadership tool that builds trust, develops your team, and frees you up to operate at your highest level. You will leave with a clearer sense of your priorities, practical strategies you can put into place immediately, and a renewed confidence in your ability to lead without feeling like you are constantly running behind. Manage your time well and everything else runs better too.

Documentation That Actually Works
πŸ•¦ from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm
Documentation in early childhood education is often treated as a burden β€” something squeezed into the margins of an already full day. This workshop reframes documentation as one of the most powerful tools an educator has: for tracking growth, communicating with families, protecting yourself professionally, and building a culture of intentional practice. Participants will explore different types of documentation β€” observations, learning stories, incident reports, and communication logs β€” and learn what makes each format effective. We focus on writing that is objective, specific, and purposeful, with strategies for fitting meaningful documentation into real-world schedules without sacrificing quality or accuracy.

De-escalation β€” Bringing Calm to a Heated Moment:
πŸ•™ from 10 am to 11 am
In a busy child care environment, tension can rise quickly β€” between children, between colleagues, or between staff and families. In this workshop, we explore the art and science of de-escalation: what is actually occurring in the brain during a heated moment, and how to intervene in a way that brings calm rather than adding fuel to the fire. You will learn how to read the early warning signs, regulate your own response under pressure, and use language and body language that defuses rather than escalates. We will address real scenarios drawn from the child care setting, directly related to what you face on the floor. Whether you are supporting a child in crisis, navigating a tense parent interaction, or stepping into a conflict between team members, this workshop gives you a practical toolkit you can reach for in the moment β€” and the confidence to use it.

Sick: How Sick is Too Sick?
πŸ•¦ from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm
One of the most common daily dilemmas in childcare is determining whether a child is well enough to be at the centre β€” and knowing what to do when the answer is no. This workshop helps floor staff navigate illness policies with confidence and consistency, covering common childhood illnesses, exclusion guidelines, symptom thresholds, and how to communicate sensitively with families. We explore the balance between compassion for working parents and the responsibility to protect the health of all children and staff in the program. Participants will leave with practical language for difficult conversations and a clearer understanding of how to apply health policies fairly and professionally.
